I've been following along for some time and I'm excited to now be able to ask my own diamond question.

I'm prepared to propose with one last missing thing - the ring! I don't think I could make a move without at least getting your input.

What do you guys think of this diamond?

The ring will be set in a simple solitaire platinum setting with a size 8 finger. I've been given free reign on my choice aside from a desire for a simple setting.

Carat Weight: 1.7ct, Round Cut, VS2, H, 3X
32.5 Crown, 40.8 Pavillion, Depth 59.6, Table 60, Faint
Measurements: 7.75 - 7.77 x 4.62 mm

HCA Score: 1.4
Light Return and Scintillation both VG
Fire and Spread both Excellent

About $11,500

Thanks so much!

Hi, @JohnDa :wavey:

Don't know if you've come across any PS threads or articles about 60:60 diamonds, but I think this 2017 thread would be very worthwhile reading for you:

I do have grave doubts about that vendor. In addition to the fact that they have virtually no Internet presence, they have chosen to hide their true identity on the Internet by way of a domain proxy. And there is zip, nada, nothing about them on their own website. Heck, they don't even have a functioning home page, let alone About Us and Contact pages with verifiable info.

Also, I just did a a narrow search for a diamond in the PS database with those specs
and see that Good Old Gold, a very reputable brick-and-mortar jewelry store in Long Island, NY that also is an online merchant, is listing that same diamond (same GIA lab report #) for several hundred dollars less than the listing price on my(mysterious)diamondsearch:

My hearty recommendation is that you use the Diamond Search feature here on PS. It includes more than 400,000 diamonds -- offered by vendors who have earned and maintained a fine reputation.

Thank you very much for your response and recommendation. I'm not sure who the mydiamondsearch URL belongs to but it was supplied by Martin from USA Certed Diamonds which is who I've been working with.

Gotcha. Martin is amazing so no worries there. The concern was just if you were working with a random website no one had ever heard of. But I agree with @MollyMalone that you should read about 60/60 stones

My 5 cents and I’m no diamond guru.
It has an inclusion right in the centre, that would be distracting for me.
Otherwise it is a nice diamond and a fair price but I’d look around a bit more before committing.

Oh I'm so happy to hear that -- you are in good hands!
I'm not able to shrink the video all the way down to its true size on my laptop screen, but I can say fwiwty that at 10 mm in diameter it looks eye-clean to me.

Do you live close to Martin Sheffield or to one in the cities-towns served by an independent t appraiser on the list he would like you to use for his Purchase Method #2 -- where you don't pay if you don't like the stone upon viewing it at the appraise's office:
Even if your answer is No, US Certed Diamonds does have a 7-day return policy, provided he sent you the loose stone, not set in the mounting.

By any chance, does he have the stone in hand? I'm guessing not, but if he does, would he be willing to send you a video of this stone alongside what he would consider to be the best "ideal"round brilliant stone in the same price range?

I'm intrigued by this one because my sense has been -- not that I've seen a lot of 60/60 stones -- that 60/60 stones typically offer more brilliance, but less fire, but the HCA results here indicate this one has greater fire (and fire is something I personally value).

Thanks for taking a look at the diamond.

I am in San Francisco. I believe it's a location where he can send the diamond directly.

I was concerned about the inclusions that are front and center on the table but it sounds like I shouldn't be too worried about them.

He is not in possession of the stone.

Yep, here are the two San Francisco-area appraisers to whom t it seems he's comfortable sending a stone for your pre-payment viewing:

They both have fine credentials.
