Hi. I am considering this asscher:

still.jpg

It has table 57% and depth 67%.

There's no ASET available for this diamond.

My questions are about the dark chevron shaped reflections in the crown facets. I believe that these are a result the small table. And I assume that they would show up blue in an ASET if there was one available. But will they make the stone look too dark given that they are quite dramatic? Or is this likely to be as result of reflections from the camera and be less noticeable in person? Will the chevrons contribute to extra scintillation?

I'm hoping that Karl K and some of the other asscher experts can weigh in :wavey:

Picture could indicate a possible problem or it may not, if they cant do ASET ask for a video or a picture from a greater distance.

The red arrows all point to areas where it isstill1.jpg fine, the area circled by green may or may not be an issue.

Thanks KarlK. What kind of problem does the green area present?

Potentially a big darker blob under the table not matching the rest of the stone.
The areas the arrows point to provide a lot of contrast, thats good.
Add in a large dark area and its to much.
But from the video/pic its impossible to tell if its a video or real world issue.

What do you think are the chances of this stone having excellent dispersion? I'm on the fence about whether to order it and inspect in person.....

Ask if they can take a video of it on their hand in natural diffused lighting?

Unfortunately that's not an option.

I'm wondering if there's a way to tell based on the angles and video?

Could you purchase it loose and inspect it? If not to your taste, then return it.

That's an option but I'm trying to work out whether its worth potentially tying up the funds for a couple of weeks if I have to return it. And there's an exchange rate to factor in......

It would be worth it to ME, but you have to decide if you’re willing to walk away, and look elsewhere...and risk missing out on knowing for certain if this is the diamond for you.

I think this stone is beautiful, from these stills, and I love the tiny table.
I, personally, couldn’t pass on it, without examining it IRL, with my eyes.

I have a good feeling about this one as well. I think there is a good chance it is gorgeous in person! :kiss2:

I debated it all day long, and finally decided I need to see this one in person, so I ordered it =)2

I feel like it has the look of a Royal Asscher, although it is not one, and only has a 4 step pavilion. But with the 56% table and 66.6% depth it has similar proportions. It actually has a small culet as well, so I'm wondering if it might be an antique cut?

The asscher is gorgeous! I look forward to reading about what you think of it in person.

not likely

What would be an indicator - is it the culet size? Or just the proportions and facet pattern in general?

New report date, VG/EX, 3c/4p general make its most likely a recent cut but could go back a bit but not likely antique.
But more than likely recent production.

So it arrived today.........

I have loads more pics which I will post in a while once I've had chance to download them.
I now need to decide if I'm going to keep it!

Here is the ASET:

It wasn't easy being able to see any leakage in most lights whilst it was in the stone holder so I tried photographing it against a blue background face on. The leakage does not seem that significant to me and it creates a nice pattern in the diamond.

Here it is at its worst, in low, slightly obstructed lighting. I dont like this appearance very much.

But most of the time it looks like this: 20190325_142843.jpg 20190325_141546.jpg 20190325_132812.jpg 20190325_131959.jpg

It has amazing fire:

So I think its a good asscher, and I have always wanted one. I've been looking for a long time. But....... I'm not sure that's its big enough to be able to appreciate the steps and the lovely shape. Its 1.26cts and I think its faces up quite well for the carat weight at 6.14 x 6.09, but I know I would be happier with 7 x 7 ish (although a stone that size will cost a lot more than I wanted to pay, given that it's not my main ring).

Here it is next to a 0.8ct cushion and a 1.14ct EC. Although they are both in halos which gives a bigger look anyway, when you compare the size of the centre diamonds to the asscher, the asscher doesnt seem to have more presence considering the extra carat weight. I knew that asschers face up small but I was hoping that one would satisfy my size needs. I wouldn't want to halo it, I was thinking 3 or 5 stone setting with other step cuts like baguettes or bullets. But I'm not clear if this will show the asscher shape off well enough and also whether it will give enough finger coverage.

On one hand I'm not sure if its big enough to really show its asscher qualities, and on the other hand it took so long to find this one I'm not sure I want to let it go

I like this Assher. I know what you mean about size though. I would personally use a sleek tension setting and let the Asscher be the star of the show.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do

It's phenomenally gorgeous ! And a three stone would be lovely. I agree with you about the face up size, though to my eye it doesn't look too small, but your eyes are the most important. Good luck with your decision.
