Opalescent spinel ring by DanielM

After hemming and hawing about this spinel for the last 10 months I decided (finally) to just go ahead and set it. I had two hexagon moissanites taking up room in my stone box which were too mismatched for their original project but gorgeous anyway.

I put the three stones together, sent DanielM an inspiration pic, and requested oxidized silver to amp up the silky color of the spinel.

Glad to finally have the stone on my finger! DanielM was insanely easy to work with, and a very quick turnaround. I had a great experience with his bench and would 100% work with him again. It was raining here today, I will try for some sun pics tomorrow.

Saw your new ring on Dan's page, it's beautiful, the oxidized silver really pops the colors of the other gems!

when the oxidation wears down you can hard boiled an egg- mush it up in a zip lock bag- put the ring in the same bag (not touching) for like a half hour and boom. Re- oxidized.
thats what I do with the ring I had do for him.

The yellow one I think was “Shree Gems and Jewelry” and the icy white one I totally forget. If you search for “loose hexagon moissanite” on Etsy that brought up a ton of options. Same search for trapezoid brought up some shops. The Rio Grande jewelry website also sometimes has specialty shapes.

The egg tip only sometimes works so if you want a sure fire way to oxidise but the best thing to buy is a product called Liver of Sulpher (which stinks to high heaven of raw eggs!). You put a few drops in warm water and place your ring in it. In a minute, the oxidisation will be back! Take the ring out and either rinse in a small bowl of bicarbonate of soda and normal water or just tap water.

Thank you. If down the road it graduates to a daily wear ring I could see resetting it with smaller side diamonds in oxidized platinum.

Whoa ! I don't know whether it's because I was busy staring at the oxidized metal or the cool spinel, but I did not realize those are morganites until I read your caption! I thought they were fancy diamonds.

They are moissanites, but thank you! Originally they were going to be part of a pendant that got too complicated, and I ended up scrapping the idea. I think they work here though! Although of course when I showed a few people in person they said “Oh wow... did you mean for the side stones to not match?”
