I was gifted with this beautiful ring. The whether it's real or fake honestly doesn't matter, but I must admit I am curious.
I know this isn't a great picture but would anyone perhaps be willing to offer their opinion as to if they believe it be real or not?

Hi,
It looks real to me. It looks as if it has some color play, and I would think it is a crystal opal or an etheopian opal, which may fall under the category or crystal opal as well. I'm not sure which category is falls under.
Thank you. I will post more pictures this evening, in natural light.
What would be the value of such a ring, should the opal be real? Any ideas?
This ring was a gift from my father-in-law, who acquired it in a "lot" of estate jewelry. I've always been fond of opals and pearls, so he gifted it to me. It was a sweet gesture. He has no idea it's value and is interested in what I'm learning.
Hi Mehpenn,
Your opal does look to be real and is solid opal too which is a good thing. It looks to be white Coober Pedy material however it is of a commercial quality as the brightness of colourplay is probably about b1.5-b2. It is not a really expensive gem but still beautiful all the same! I hope you enjoy your new white opal ring! Thankyou for your extra pics they definitely helped.
