Through PS (and @kenny bringing attention to @jordyonbass), I ended up becoming PS besties with Jordy. We ended up chatting a lot due to the different time zones and my (still but improved) irregular sleep patterns. Jordy would listen to me vent and reply with pictures of his kitten

Now opals - I've only known of the type of opals sold in mauls. The opals he cuts confused me because they were contrary to what I thought opals should look like. A few PSers here and there have posted vintage Opal rings but his opals are really different from those as well. I find myself partial to blues and greens and I let Jordy know. The only black opals I had seen on PS had reds and yellows and other primary colors - they were really cool but not my thing.
This week Jordy posted a ring he had made - east west in a bezel for himself. A few weeks ago he posted a ring he had made for his wifey. I was like holy expletive! I want the opal ring love child! I want east west like yours with a plain shank and a scalloped bezel halo like your wifey's ring!!! He's like cool dude... so I said first things first... pick an opal that's PintoBean-ish to you...
I was surprised but he picked two black opals. I kept thinking he'd go white lolol. Both with blues and greens and purples. Even more shocking - I picked the smaller one.

From there I was like dude what if your jeweler can do black rhodium? Then it'd be like this cool gothy opal ring for da widow!!!! (Btw, the price quoted for the setting is on par with what I would see in USA).
I just bought the opal not too long before I started this thread. I'm super excited!!!
Btw, I was going to put this off for a bit but I recently went to a PS recommended vendor for quotes on something else and prices have gone up, so I'm wrapping up my projects ASAP for 2018.
