:wavey:Good evening/day!

Through PS (and @kenny bringing attention to @jordyonbass), I ended up becoming PS besties with Jordy. We ended up chatting a lot due to the different time zones and my (still but improved) irregular sleep patterns. Jordy would listen to me vent and reply with pictures of his kitten  and whatever was the latest opal he was cutting. He has also shared with me pictures of Australia as he drives around for work. Magnificent landscapes!

Now opals - I've only known of the type of opals sold in mauls. The opals he cuts confused me because they were contrary to what I thought opals should look like. A few PSers here and there have posted vintage Opal rings but his opals are really different from those as well. I find myself partial to blues and greens and I let Jordy know. The only black opals I had seen on PS had reds and yellows and other primary colors - they were really cool but not my thing.

This week Jordy posted a ring he had made - east west in a bezel for himself. A few weeks ago he posted a ring he had made for his wifey. I was like holy expletive! I want the opal ring love child! I want east west like yours with a plain shank and a scalloped bezel halo like your wifey's ring!!! He's like cool dude... so I said first things first... pick an opal that's PintoBean-ish to you...

I was surprised but he picked two black opals. I kept thinking he'd go white lolol. Both with blues and greens and purples. Even more shocking - I picked the smaller one. He describes that one I picked as being a "ripper", so I asked if that means it farts a lot (like me)?:shifty:

From there I was like dude what if your jeweler can do black rhodium? Then it'd be like this cool gothy opal ring for da widow!!!! (Btw, the price quoted for the setting is on par with what I would see in USA).

I just bought the opal not too long before I started this thread. I'm super excited!!!

Btw, I was going to put this off for a bit but I recently went to a PS recommended vendor for quotes on something else and prices have gone up, so I'm wrapping up my projects ASAP for 2018.

My opal when it was a "baby rough" and then when it was going through puberty "mid polish"

Oooooh it's beautiful @PintoBean!!! :love:So excited for you!:appl:

Yowza, that is one beautiful opal! And thanks for the hot tip on a new vendor to follow... just what I need!;)2

IN a black setting?? Yowza! I love it!

OHMYGOSH, Pinto!!! Thank you for posting this. I have been wanting a gorgeous opal for the longest time. I continually scour the internet but have been so afraid to pull the trigger on one. The one you picked is gorgeous. I can't wait to see how you set it. I am going to start stalking Jordan's Etsy shop.
Both my daughter and myself are October babies so whatever I have made, I am sure she will eventually be wearing, or maybe I will have two necklaces made. I won't do a ring because I want it to be worn a lot and both of us would be too hard on a ring. Congratulations, your opal is fabulous!

Awesome!!! congrates!!!!!!

This is exciting! Sounds like its going to be really different than what you are use to. Can wait to see what you come up with. Nice job Jordy!

It’s gorgeous, and how fun to see the progress pics! Can’t wait to see the finished project.

Pinto! that is one gorgeous stone girl.. I love it.

Gosh it looks gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing the goth ring!

Oh my goodness that opal is lovely!

Damn!! That is the coolest rock. I can totally see you wearing that. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Beautiful!! I have that on my list, too, because my youngest is an October baby! I love black opals, especially!.

Wow - not like anything you'd see every day and call an opal! Love the depth of the stone and the colors are so pretty! Excited to see your new beauty all set!

Wow @PintoBean that is a super cool looking rock - I think the colors are gorgeous and I can totally envision the halo setting with black rhodium!!!

Do you have any drawings or CADs for the ring?! When will you get this beauty?!

Well, well, well, what a bloody ripper it is! (Aussie here)
I’m a bit of an opal lover and that’s superb. Lucky you.
Treasure it and if you ever go to sell it, pick me, pick me, pick me.
I prescribe it as a “happy drug” - please spend at least 15 minutes a day sitting in sunshine twirling it around.
Magic.

This is the type of photo that Jordy sends me. You guys live in a magical place! And sometimes I'm not sure we speak the same "English"
For example - what do you call a woman - a Sheila
What do you call a female dog? - fuzzy Sheila
What do you call a bearded lady? - a bloke

I asked for the halo like jordys wife's ring but east west on a plain comfort fit shank. Let me link it below.

Well come on over Pintobean, we have a spare room and the bonus is, that’s where all “my pretties” live.
And you’re welcome to play with them.:appl:

That is a real ripper, congrats!!!! You should move this over to the coloured stone section too so all the CS people can enjoy it as well!!!

Thank you @arkieb1 for the suggestion! I'm so used to just starting project type threads in RT that I did it out of habit lololol. I will flag mod to move the thread!

That is a gorgeous opal PB. Well done! Looking forward to seeing it set.

How exciting for you!!! Looking forward to see how you will set this beauty. You stone is a beauty

I am glad you posted it first in RT as I would have missed your gorgeous opal.

Just guessing that it will be even more incredible in person than in the photo, and wow, that is some photo. I particularly loved the picture of the back side with the potch still attached to the back.

Please give my compliments to Jordy.

Wink

Haha I love that you know what "potch" is. When Jordy first introduced me to "potch" I thought he was trying to say "patch" with his accent :lol-2:. To me, it looks like cream cheese frosting on my opal :lickout:

WOW that looks amazing!!! :appl:

Please share photos when you get it!

That’s gorgeous. I don’t think I’ve seen one with purple flashes. I can’t wait to see it set!
