I have a 12 year old black opal ring that my husband gave me that is in desparate need of polishing. Does anyone know of anyone in the St Louis MO area that does this inexpensivley. Most Jewelry stores that I have talked to tell me that it would cost anywhere from $100 to $150 dollars. Heck, it be be cheaper just to take one of my loose black opals and replace the stone!! Any advice is appreciated.

You have to realize that most jewelry stores do not cut stones or polish them. They simply take them, then send them out to be cut or polished at a lapidary. You should be looking for a lapidary, not a jeweler.
