I took this photo of a new stone I had, and well, it has 100% light return. I look like I have a mini-sun on my hand.

It's not a diamond, but it's a very very bright, round, diamond cut stone. I'll share more details later. :Up_to_something:

I took the photo on a sunny day in my car.

Chrysoberyl !!!!!
That must be it !!!
Or Mali Garnet..... or Sphene ????
A Spinel ???

uGH,. you have the best car everrrr..... my grey tinted windows
make everything look UGH !!!!!
Even if I open the sunroof...

Aaaaahhhh, I have to get to bed, it's late,
help, I MUST KNOW !!!!!! :knockout: :errrr: :knockout: :errrr: :knockout:

Hahaha, I'm enjoying Ooo~Shiney's angst as much as i am that mini sun.

ETA: By the way, I think you might be one of the most fun girls to buy presents for. Especially surprise/suspense presents. Even if you knew big hints.

TL, you bad girl! What a tease!

I hope its a Mali garnet

Mini vans aren't that exciting, let me tell you. :knockout:

It's a lemon yellow chrysoberyl, around 8.1 mm in size. It's very very well cut, and cut just like a diamond. It's so bright, I took this photo very late in the evening (around 8:00 PM) outside.

I wish this photo would show all the brilliance this stone has, but it doesn't. It is very yellow, with a tiny touch of green.

There is not a shred of brown in this stone, but my camera shadow isn't helping here. I got the above shot because I oriented my camera not to make a shadow on the stone.

It just goes to show you that when something is really well cut, it has a lot of light return.

Pushing "Like" button... Beautiful color! How did you take the photo? Like Agatha Christie's "They do it with mirrors"?

Crasru,
Thank you.
It sparkles so much, and I guess I had my camera at the right position and pressed "click" at the right time. When I took that shot, I thought, "wow, if only people could see that I started nuclear fusion on my hand."

Meh. So you picked up the green lantern's ring. Big deal. ;)

Ohhhhhhhhh The LEMON !!!!
WHAT a BEAUTY !!!!

That one is sure to give your diamond ring a run for the money when it's set ....
Wearing BOTH of them ~ You'll burn out your retinas !!!!!
That Chrysoberyl will throw off sparks like a 4th of July Sparkler !!!!

Wow, and such a nice big size, too !!!!!!!
You now have another BRIGHT YELLOW for your Traffic Light !!!!

an aside: oh, mini-van, I knew you well....
"Vanny" had to be sold off after 18 years, and 3 transmission changes.
The AC didn't work, none of the windows would roll down *(hand roll, BTW)
without Herculean effort because they were so stuck, and all the passenger side
doors wouldn't open, so you crawled in through the driver's side
and then hopped over the seats to get into the back. :?
My youngest son cried when it left.
It was the only car he knew.... purchased when I was pregnant with him.
He could fit all his friends in it, and it had
lots of good memories....
and it still ran *(sort of).......

Awesome. Chrysoberyl might be next on my wish list now! Hope you have good sunglasses, TL, that thing'll cause an accident! 8-)
A minivan may be in my future too, having just had baby #3.

LOL! You guys are too funny. I want to get rid of my minivan for a new Audi. Oh well, in my dreams right?

Here's a better photo, but the color is not as washed out here. At least you can see there is no brown. This was taken in my minivan in a gem box. The sparkles and facets in there remind me of little mirrors.

What a beautiful stone! May I ask where you got it?

I have something similar that I picked up from Barry's sale last year, also a chrysoberyl.

That is INCREDIBLE!!! What are your plans for it? It would melt any setting!!

Thanks everyone. This stone is so hard to take a true to life photo of because it's so bright!!! My camera always offshoots the white balance. In a gem box, this time in my husband's car (no minivan).

No plans for it yet, but I do want to set it.

JewelFreak, I have to share a funny story with you. My 8 year old son thought your avatar was Spongebob. Yeah, I wish spongebob was a canary yellow cushion diamond!!

The stone was from Tan. It was not one of his auctions, but one of his BIN priced stones, so it was a bit higher in price, but I think it's worth every penny.

I have been aching for a heliodore or similar - this baby is just supergorgeous! More pictures please :lickout:

Thanks Natsplat!

Heliodors are sometimes irradiated to get them to this color, and the treatment is not detectable. I would opt for chrysoberyl, since as far as I know, it's a non-treated stone, all natural in color, and the big plus is it's the third hardest gem (after diamond and sapphire).

Wow...that stone is amazing!

Thanks again.

Here's the video. This stone is so hard to photograph properly, I thought the video might be helpful, especially to see the wonderful cutting, sparkle, and luster in 3D. Tan's chrysoberyls always look more green in his videos, but this stone is more yellow (like when the stone rotates and from the side shot of the pavillion). It goes a tiny bit more green in artificial light, but it's 90% yellow. Think fluorescent yellow highlighter color, just like the photo below.

This makes me want to get one too!

Awesome! Great that you bought it!

Now, TL, knowing your love of color-comparisons. In all honesty, you should have placed a Spongebob next to the stone! And then his friend Patrick next to him and a hot pink stone next to Patrick... I know my humor will not be lost on you since we both seem to be forced to watch the same cartoons...

Oooooh I love that chryso!! Really nice cutting, color and luster.

Are you sure Tan didn't send you a yellow diamond?? :naughty:
