So I posted on here a week or so ago about a diamond and setting I bought at Jared, I was talked out of it to go with something online, but when I went to the store the manager had talked me into just returning it.....

I told him I wanted to shop around more and that I would like to see a few more diamonds before purchasing and he told me they had a promotion that was for every $500 you spend you get $200 in return... What I had bought was for $10500 so as a result of that I would get $4200. He said the promotion was ending this Saturday so if I returned it then "re bought" it the promotion would kick in and I would be able to use that promotion going forward. This would be on top of the 18month 0 interest promotion I was already locked into. He also said that if I didn't find something within 30 days I could "return and re-buy" again all with no commitment and still keep both promotions until we found something I liked. I was still hesitant seeing what I could get and he said he may be able to reduce the diamond price by 10-12% depending. I wanted to get peoples thoughts on this, I know online the prices are lower but with all of wthe promotions as well as the 10-12% off diamond price, I feel like it would be the right move to go with them and possibly even talk to him and see if there's anymore he could do. What do you think?

1.30 F SI2 can be brough for 5~6k range. So, now Jare is finally giving you a fair offer.
Do you really want to work with a vendor you ripped you off to begin with??

It is upto to you to decide. But don't get sucked into their claim that it is a special promotion, because jewellery stores always have some sort of promotion

All 1.34 F SI2's I've seen that were Excellent polish symmetry no florescent were around 7.5-8 online. And yes I agree, but this guy seemed determined to get me to buy from them and I feel like there is more wiggle room. I'm planning on at least sitting with him bringing up my concerns and what you've posted about the price range and see what he'll do. But like I said the price seemed almost about the same and in store I can see the stone pre-purchas

Is the diamond GIA or AGS certified? You want to see the actual document and match the number on the girdle. No gibberish talk about how much you are saving! I know it's the first time you are buying, but there is much more to selecting a well performing diamond than price! There are posts online which address this and I would encourage you to spend more time thinking this carefully as 10 k is a sizeable budget!

Yes, it was a GIA certified, I don't know much about the other certs and thus have only been looking at GIA cert diamonds.

I would say "Run Forrest, Run!"

Jewellery store promotions are just that, a promotion to suck you in. From what I've heard about Jared, they sell you personalised service but with diamonds that are not really the best quality cut wise at ridiculous prices. I'd stick with online and not be sucked in to the offer of cash back on your purchase.

I guess I don't understand how they don't get the "best quality cut"? I know oval's dont have cut grades, but if they have excellent polish, excellent symmatry and all the dimensions match up how can you tell if it's as good or worse than online stones? Again I'm knew to this and I thought going with them would be the best bang for my buck.

I think the feeling overwhelmed is extremely common. This is a confusing process! IMHO, I think that's why going with one of the trusted vendors here is so much safer. They know we talk about them, and the reach that this community has. And they go out of their way to make PS'ers happy. Jared's has no real concern for you once you walk out of the door. They figure the worst you can do is post something on their FB or IG page, which will get buried or unread. They'll tell you what you want to hear. The trusted vendors tell you the truth.

Please do a search on this forum and read about how to choose an oval diamond. There are several PSers who asked about selecting ovals and you will be able to understand the difference of selecting an oval with more scintillation, performance, etc.. and those that are underperforming. You will view pictures and see what other prosumers have advised. It does take time and you will have to do the work and read each post. Educating yourself is the best way to help you evaluate what you are doing. Be aware that you should also see an aset and idea scope of the diamond so you can evaluate the performance of the oval you selected. You can learn more about Aset and idea-scope on the forum (do a search) or visit a vendor such as Whiteflash to view actual images.

And if after reading and analyzing the info you read on this forum that you still want that diamond at Jared at least you know what you bought! Be sure to get down in writing about the promotional and returns the salesperson said to you! Don't take anything for granted!!
