After doing the study and coming to the conclusion that the diamond I''m looking for would be Holloway Cut Adviser high performer and somewhere over 2.5 carats and under 3.0, I see that no diamonds have shown up in the Cut Quality Search here on Pricescope now for more than a few weeks. I''m still checking measurements on stones appearing in other searches but if they were HCA low scorers, I''ll guess they would already be listed.

I can only speculate that this size range is not as popular and inventories may be sold out currently, but before I change my preferences so that I can find something sooner rather than later, can anyone add information about this range and some thoughts about when stones would show up? I guess I''d like to know if I should look other places or for other attributes.

Any detail would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Larger diamonds are scarce, if you would like some help searching post your budget and other requirements and we can look for you?

Thank you for the reply. The type I was looking for would be 2.5 carats or higher, G or better, VS2 or better. I was estimating that a 2.5 carat stone with a high quality cut and the other attributes above would range $30k for an outstanding deal (although perhaps not so likely) and approach the upper $30,000''s or 40,000''s depending mainly on the seller.

In fairness, I''m still shopping and want to find a great value. I''m flexible on the budget and on one or more other factors for the right stone so long as it is eye clear and has a great cut.

Since I''m not seeing many candidates at all on the cut quality search, I''d like to know how realistic I''m being if I keep waiting to actually see stones come up in the search and was going to delay until January now that November is all but over. If this isn''t a timing issue, I see signature or branded stones on individual sites show up on what I assume are premium sellers'' sites, but with only a few to see here and there I guess I am beginning to understand that they are rare. So, before I look at 2.0 to 2.4 I want more or less a reality check to know whether I''ll find something if I wait or, if I should look elsewhere.

Thanks.

Finding high cut-quality-diamonds between 2.50 and 2.99 is indeed a challenge.

Most rough diamonds yielding such a potential stone will most probably also yield an average cut-quality +3Ct-stone. Unfortunately (?), that second stone is much more valuable, and as such, a cutter will be more inclined to cut the lower quality, bigger stone, or in the competition for rough, he will be outcompeted by another cutter, going for this lower quality, bigger stone.

Live long,

Live long,
As Pauls says, look at these price stats
https://www.pricescope.com/Reports.asp?shp=8&cut=2 and see how much more a cutter can make even with a 20% discount for lower cut quality!

Then look at this chart and see the distribution challenge you face
http://diamonds.pricescope.com/tutor/availability_carat_distribution_chart_2007.jpg

They do exist - but the price difference for well cut examples may not bear any resemblance to 2-2.2ct prices per carat.

Thank you to everyone. The distribution chart surely helps as do the replies and suggestions. I suppose I am looking for something fairly rare.
