I know I have kind of asked about this before, but I actually narrowed down setting possibilities (to two) for the OMC my man has purchased.

The first setting I LOVE is the James Meyer (like Rainydaze) in unplated WG.

The second is a 3 stone (two matching OMC's) in a James Meyer unplated WG.

On this site, I have seen a post with a CAD drawing from James Meyer of a 3 stone ring (like Rainydaze, just 3 OMC's) and again, I'm in LOVE.

I can't decide. I want a little more bling, but don't know if I should go three stone with a plain band or solitare with a blingy-er wedding band....?
The stone we have is (from what I hear) GORGEOUS and full of life and personality. I don't want to take away from the stone, but don't want to be left craving more bling.

So, which would you choose? Would you add 2 more OMC's or just leave the OMC we have alone?

I'm sorry I don't have pictures. The stone is in hiding and I'm not "allowed" to peek.

Part of my answer lies in the size of the stone. If it is around 1 ct, I''d get sides stones to add to the overall look and for finger coverage. If it is 1.5 ct and over, I''d get the solitaire to allow the stone to shine alone in its chunky glory.

It might be hard to find two more OECs to match for the 3 stone. I love the look of 3 stones though and would go for that.

Another option would be to go 3-stone using colored sides, i.e. sapphires.

Oh thank you for your responses. As for the size of the OMC in our posession - it''s between 7.05 - 7.10mm on a size 6.75 finger. I thought about sapphires and LOVE LOVE LOVE them, but I like them more in prong settings then in bezel. I would prong set the OMC, but I''m scared of damaging the girdle.

Finding two other matching OMC''s may be tough, but I''m sure, with a little elbow grease, we could do it.

Thanks again.

hi Lekde! i thought i could weigh in with a little first-hand experience...

my OEC measures almost exactly the same as your OMC and my finger size is close to yours (6.25) and i love it as a solitaire! i wanted my stone to stand out and it does.... this setting quietly compliments it in the background. because the diamond itself is such a great performer, i have never once craved more bling - i really love that it stands on its own. even with a metal band, the diamond still has a substantial presence (to me) and gives me plenty of bling-lishesness. i have not thought once that i wish i could add to it for more bling (and i''m not a minimalist in this area per se as i did try to get more bling out of my previous not-so-blingy PC).

that being said, i tried it on with my mom''s 7 stone shared prong diamond band (about 3-4 pointers i believe) and i loved them together!! it gave it a different look, but the OEC/JM was still the dominant ring, with the diamond band providing a more romantic compliment. even though i don''t feel that the OEC/JM needs it, it would be nice to get a diamond band like that down the road as it was a soft and pretty alternative to the plain JM band i wear with it currently.

so, that would be my personal vote - go for the solitaire JM and pair it with a diamond band!

(disclaimer: i have never tried a three-stone antique so maybe i would be swayed if i did).

For a 7 mm OMC, a solitaire would be great!

Rainydaze: Thank you!! That was so very sweet of you to offer me first hand advice. I began loving a JM solitare and I think I just have to do with my gut on this one. I have been eyeing up a few diamond bands on single stone''s site that I think would be fabulous with the JM. I think you mentioned in your thread, but you don''t find the fire and brillance of your stone to be diminished at all do you? I don''t want there to be too much going on. My fingers are LONG and thin so a three stone may be overkill due to the bezels being slightly more spread out than a regular prong setting.

Chrono: Thank you for your insight. I think I''m gonna stick with what I fell in love with the first time around...a solitare. Plus it helps that the solitare is what FF loves too (and its a lil easier on the checkbook).

To everyone else: Thank you, thank you! When I finally do get this ring I will share, I promise!

oooo, single stone has some amazing bands! which one(s) in particular are you thinking? i am a big go-with-your-gut girl myself, i think that''s a good way to go!

no, the JM did not take away any of the fire and brilliance of my OEC - but that is a testament to the cut of the diamond from what i understand. i took my chances - i did not have ASET or IS images to tell me what the light leakage on my OEC was, so i could only hope that it was cut well enough that the bezel would not affect it. also, this setting is so open underneath that i also hoped that would help maintain the diamond''s fire/brilliance. i am no expert, so i cannot say why mine didn''t diminish at all, i am just thrilled to pieces that it turned out the way it did!

I am in love with single stone''s site!! The band(s) I have been eying up the
french cut band. I think we will also end up getting matching plain metal JM bands, which is great, because I work in a field where wearing diamonds to work isn''t really the best idea. Due to the fact that I''m not allowed to peek at the stone, I will suggest to FF that he get the ASET or IS image prior to setting it(maybe during appraisal), just in case there is major light leakage.

Thanks again, Rainy, for taking the time to provide me with such helpful, first hand information. What type of band do you wear with your JM? (if you don''t mind me asking, of course).

you''re welcome!

i''m glad it was helpful. i wear a metal band by JM with it, it has three wraps. it''s one of the ones on his website, and it''s about 2-2.5mm wide.

i am so excited for you, i think that singlestone band is GORGEOUS!
