There are a few spots in the head on pictures that make me think it's not eye-clean....

I thought so too... but what about that price? Say it was indeed eyeclean as the seller claims, would that have been a good deal? should i expect to find an old cut diamond in that carat range for that price on ebay? Just trying to figure out pricing. thanks!

IF it were eyeclean and a K, I think it's a pretty good price-- not a steal, but you will be paying what it's worth, and not more. Nice setting too. I think the .90 pointer they have up there now is overpriced though.

This is crazy nice, but i think it'll end up out of my price range!!

It's a bid. Only one way to find out. IF it's clean, I wouldn't bid on it otherwise.

TBH, i had a very bad experience w/ this seller about 10 years ago over something very minor. Plus the N is probably too tinted... i think K-L might be my cutoff point.

The second one you can Best Offer with "Diamond Only" since it's prong set and see what they say. It will let them make money of the setting in the future and you get what you want, if they agree.

I wish I were working right now. I'd buy this one.

That seller only accepts returns if we get a written appraisal from a GIA GG stating it's not as described within 3 days. I dont think i can even do that since i work from 7am-6pm!

ROFLMAO. It just requires creative thinking my dear. Have it shipped directly to the appraiser.

Haha, i know.. but even if it's misrepresented, they still take off 10% from the refund!!!

That's why the provide the good pics and the description. It's a matter of risk. I'd take it, personally. But that stone is pretty much exactly what I want J eyeclean and pretty. If it's not right for you... don't even consider it.

Plus you can always email them and ask them nicely to waive their policy for you. Some sellers are MUCH more flexible than their ads say once you talk to them.

This is a whole new territory for me. I'm used to buying diamonds on ebay.... but ones that come from broken engagement and such. Those are usually GIA graded so i knew exactly what i was getting, and i've managed to meet up with a few of the sellers in California to inspect the diamonds first. Buying sight unseen and ungraded is scary!

It is, but that's also why the stone is listed for 2500 instead of what of the 4500 they could get for it if they had a certificate and a store like Old World Diamonds. You pay more for certainty. Personally here's how I think of it. I don't expect a steal... but I do want to get what I paid for.

For example, I bought a .6something OEC sold as H VS. I had it shipped straight to BGD and they found that it had a chip under on the prongs and is really much closer to a J-K color. I asked the seller for a discount (partial refund) based on Brian's evaluation of the stone and they gave it to me. But I kept the stone and I had it recut and polished, the chip came out with very little weight loss and no spread loss and it's now a fireball with ideal light performance. It's a gorgeous stone... and it's worth exactly what I paid for it (including the refund and recut). It brings me joy. So I count that as a success. It sounds like more hassle that it was. On my end it was a couple of emails and then just waiting for BGD to send me my completed necklace. I'd happy to be slightly inconvenienced if it means saving money... I would have paid much for for a certified stone.

Now if that sounds like too much trouble... maybe you'd be happy with something with a certificate because old cuts do have unexpected chips in the girdles and things like that... so you need to have a plan of action on what you are going to do about that. You can always return the diamond if it's got too many issues. But if it's an issue that's easily dealt with... are you gonna keep it? Re-polish it? Re-cut it?

On any old cut, ask the seller to tell you what they see at the girdle with a loupe. But keep in mind most of these are set and there could be something hidden under a prong.

It's a gamble. I think it's fun. You may not. Again it's your comfort that matters. ((HUGS))

If you are going to purchase on ebay, make sure you check feedback. I would be very hesitant with this seller. Ditto withTBone. DiamondDr has a very good reputation though.

It looks like a pretty good sized chunk may be missing at the girdle where I circled it. You need to ask what the condition of the girdle is and if this circled area is a chip or break in the stone partially covered by the bead.

hello everyone...

I really didn't want to admit to it, but i bought the first ring i posted... it spoke to me, and i bought it knowing if it didn't appraise as advertised i could return... but i did buy w/ my heart. Then i panicked and posted that thread.. and some of your responses REALLY made me panic. Sorry i lied. Gypsy, i'm actually considering a few of the ones you recommended, so your help was not in vain! i'm looking into getting an OEC pendant now. :)

It came yesterday. and It's gorgeous. And EYE CLEAN!! it's almost loupe clean!!! (except a tiny crystal by the culet and a small feather near side, center is totally clean)

I brought it over to Ari at Singlestones today during lunch to ask him about a possible repolish because the girdle has a tiny bit of wear, which was expected it since it's an old stone. Ari spent a lot of time measuring the diamond and looking at it w/ his headgear and loupe, estimated the weight, verified that there are no chips on the diamond, and said it looks like a K VS1. (oldminer- it was just a shadow, not a chip!) Then he asked what I paid, and said i did really well for what i got. I asked if i should return it, given i'm within the return period, and he said i'd be a fool to return it.

So i'm keeping it! :)

Here is a picture i took last night when i first opened up the box. Forgot to bring my camera to work today, so i'll take some after work. guess i'm skipping the gym today!

It's a bit big, and i might reset it. Still considering the repolish and i told Ari i'd let him know when i decide. It looks really really nice and i'm not sure if it really needs it, but the thought that it might look even better really entices me!

Thanks!! it has faint fluorescence too, so it looks really white! I actually love its current setting, but Ari recommended getting a new one because this one is just a tad too big for the store, so you can see a little bit of gaps peeking out from around the stone. He said it probably wont fall thru.. but it might. and there's nothing to hold it in except my finger... when i'm wearing it. so yea, it's a bit risky.

I am looking at new settings, and will probably set a gem in this one and have it sized down. it's about 3 sizes too large right now. i need to comb thru Singlestone's collection again some other time when i'm not on my lunch break! They have so many amazing rings that i felt overwhelmed.

I'm jealous that you got to see their settings in person. I would give my ring finger (well, almost) to be able to try some of their settings on! I am so excited for you and Ari is terrific, so I know that you'll end up with quite a stunner!
