So BF and I had a great day today going engagement ring shopping. After a few tries, we managed to make it to Old World and met Adam who was SUPER nice. I had previously sent Adam a list of stones that looked good to us from their website and he was nice enough to have pulled them for us to view. We wound up changing our parameters a little so Adam showed up some OMCs and OECs that met the criteria we were looking at. He was kind enough to further educate us on the stones allowing us to view stones with different clarities, colors, and weights. He showed me how to properly use a loupe and also how to pronounce cutlet which I had been pronouncing like "chicken cutlet". LOL.

It seemed like our tastes matched well with Adam''s sense of what stones were of high quality. He was kind enough to show us some stones that illustrated different problems - feathers, bubbles. After looking through quite a few, Adam was kind enough to set aside the ones we favored while we have a chance to think about them.

While we were there, we saw boxes of a new product that he is launching in the next few days/weeks. It''s called Oxi Jewel and it''s this product that can clean rings and diamonds without the issues that come alone with other products like loosening stones in settings. Anyways, it''s coming out soon so keep your eyes on that.

Anyways, after our trip to Old World, BF and I went to Tiffany''s to take a look at settings. This is our second time there and I have to say that besides the little blue box, there was nothing at Tiffany''s that made us ever want to go back. The salesperson didn''t know what width any of the settings were - she was guessing a lot of the time and didn''t bother to look it up. They had really no options in terms of round settings and the diamonds, despite being F and Gs in color and VVS1s in clarity weren''t at all impressive. They didn''t really seem like they wanted business. It was unfortunate and disappointing.

Time to mull over our options, but thought everyone should know how awesome Antique Diamonds are, how great Adam at Old World was, and how much Tiffany''s is so not worth it.

I had a good experience with Adam as well he made a pair of earrings for me out of OEC diamonds and had them shipped within two hours in time for my Wife''s Birthday last year. I was so impressed with his service and communication.

Mmmm chicken cuTlet is delicious

, diamond culet (no T after the L) not so tasty but the kozibe effect (reflections of the culet) are pretty cool though.

Adam really is a sweetheart isn''t he? He helped me find a lovely OEC, and he was a huge help over the phone. I love that his inventory is like- right in front of him, so you can ask him about a diamond and he''ll pull it out and be your eyes for you. How neat that you got to meet with him in person and look at all the goodies! That must have been really fun.

It was a lot of fun. We can attest that Adam''s taste and judgement can totally be trusted. He is a straight shooter and let''s the stones speak for themselves.

IMO those who want Tiffany are the epitome of brand chasers because the only reason to purchase there over so many equally qualified vendors is the brand.

BTW when I first ''found diamonds'' I pronounced it as I imagined the french would - cuelay - whoopsie! Also - melee diamonds has forever ruined my pronunciation of a type of weaponry lol

I''m so glad you had a great experience. I have gone through the same as you with Tiffany''s. To me its a total rip. I would go with something like custom BGD if I wanted a setting thats similar and leave Tiffs completely out of the equation.

Though I pronounce it as KOO-let, and most other people I''ve run into do too, I''ve also heard a long time jeweler pronounce it the french way like that. Dunno if it is "accurate" but I''m not gonna correct a guy who''s been in the estate jewelry business for 25 years! Oh and I''ve heard a number of jewelers say Q-let too.

LOL - I learned that melee was pronounced MEL-E, not me-lay like I thought. Go figure!
