Broken record here - but I am trying to narrow down my search and I thank all of you for your input thus far!

I LOVE vintage/antique round cuts - and do not have the same feelings towards the Hearts & Arrows cuts. This has obviously limited my search to a few vendors - Jewels by Grace, VC, and Good Old Gold. Am I missing a vendor who sells Vintage or Old European cuts?

I feel like I can now search more precisely for the perfect (for me) stone.

Old European (~ VC European Round) / August Vintage Round (~ GOG)
Ideal or Excellent cut
~ 2 carat (1.8 - 2.0 would work but prefer >2)
1.0 proportions
I-J color
VS2 or Si1 eye clean
original budget $18,000k (can go up if needed, or down in size)
(listed in order of importance)

Needle in a hay stack?

Cheers,
Crystal

Also check with Adam at Old World Diamonds - http://www.oldworlddiamonds.com/ - if you do a PS search on OWD you'll find lots of positive threads - I'd definitely suggest calling him and letting him what you're looking for.

eta: I just reread your post - it is unclear to me if you are only looking at newly cut vintage-style rounds, i.e. VC and GOG branded OEC-style diamonds - if so, please disregard my referral to OWD above. But if you are open to true antique/vintage diamonds, Adam is a great source - just be sure to let him know you are looking for great light performance as well as symmetrical patterning etc.

Victor Canera does, they are like the AVC is that they are newly cut stones with old cut faceting. And http://www.brilliantlyengaged.com/ also carries some lovely ones, though they aren't listed on their site.

Don't forget Love Affair Diamonds. I also love Lang Antiques, but their stuff can be really pricey.

Thoughts on this guy?
http://www.goodoldgold.com/ecommerce/2-07ct-l-vs1-august-vintage-round-diamond.html

Meets my desires on:
Ideal cut
European/Antique
symmetry/proportion of 1.0
carat weight
under budget
Better clarity @ VS1 than desired VS2/SI1.
Color is L instead of J desired. It appears more white than I would have thought in the pics included.

Is this ASET good? Please educate me.

Overall thoughts?
Victor also offered to have one manufactured/polished for me. He could not guarantee specifics but a range near 2 J VS2. He will be creating the setting!!

GOG August Vintage (specifically this stone) or VC European Round? Any thoughts there?

I appreciate all the help!

@ marymm - I am open to all (true vintage and newly cut vintage style) but mostly concerned with cut grade and pattern symmetry. The other c's to fall behind cut.
Thanks for the recommendation.

I feel as thought I am searching for a unicorn :wall:

If Victor Canera is making your setting, then I'm not sure GOG stones are an option for you; based on VC's FAQ page, he will not set GOG August Vintage stones -- http://www.victorcanera.com/faq.

I'd pay to know the back story on this.

OP, if you have your heart set on one of Victor's settings, and you want a precision-cut old cut style stone, you may want to stick with Victor for your stone, too.

There's a thread with the whole mess out for everyone to see. I had the misfortune of starting it. Something about a sandbox?

Re: Old European Round / August Vintage Round / Antique Cut

You state you want a stone that is I-J colour and then proceed to pick one that is an L colour, are you O.K with that? Most AVRS are nice stones, Victors stones are nice stones as well and a whisker cheaper than GOG. Both places can cut you something, but if you want the setting from Victor he will give a small discount if you purchase both from him. I know he won't take AVCs neither will Leon, for that matter, but I am not sure about AVRs.

Re: Old European Round / August Vintage Round / Antique Cut

Victor wont take AVRs but I don't know about Leon.

Re: Old European Round / August Vintage Round / Antique Cut

Leon doesn't take anything from GOG.

Re: Old European Round / August Vintage Round / Antique Cut

@arkieb1 - I did, in fact, state that I/J is on my wish list. However, some of the other parameters (ie cut) are more important to me. For my budget and wish list, something has to give. Also, there are VERY few stones out there currently that meet most of my criteria. I could certainly find a Round Brilliant in the above specs, but that's not what I "want".

This one from GOG is close - just wanted to get some thoughts on it. I originally wanted a warm/~M stone but future fi is worried about going that far down. He is willing to sacrifice carat weight and I am willing to go further on color.

I knew Victor didn't take AV Cushions - I was not aware that he was not willing to take any August branded/cut round stones.
VERY disappointing.

I will continue on my search.... please let me know if anyone comes across a beauty that might fit my wish list.

Cheers,
Snow

If it was me I would ask both vendors what they could potentially cut for you rather than settling for something that is available unless you are desperately in a hurry. I think rather than relying on everyone else's gossip you should ask Victor directly what he will and will not take from other vendors. It is my understanding, Leon takes none, Steven Kirsch takes all of them and Victor you would have to ask, specifying what you want him to make.

If you are happy with a mid coloured stone then that is O.K - I asked because some people have never seen them IRL and while lots of people on here like them they are not always for everyone. I think I was also confused by your initial post because I assumed you were also looking at genuine OECs (which will not be Ideal cuts) but still can be beautiful stones from other vendors as well.

Re: Old European Round / August Vintage Round / Antique Cut

Hi SnowWhiteRun and arkieb1, my previous post, although intending to be helpful, was posted in a hurry. It is based on the following.
When I asked Victor in January of this year if he will set my AVR, he respectfully declined stating that he had already turned down a few projects with AVRs. The FAQs on his website also state that he does not offer settings and design services for August Vintage branded diamonds.
As arkieb1 suggested though, it's best that you get in touch with Victor directly. I would also suggest reading the FAQs on his website. They are helpful.
All the best with your search SnowWhiteRun! :wavey:

Steven Kirsch will work with any vendor and without any drama. Buy the stone wherever you want it, and work with Steven. His work is as good as Victors.

If the stone is purchased from GOG this is correct, setting wise that will probably be the best option unless they choose Brilliantly Engaged for a setting - however, it might still be worth keeping in mind Steven does not cut his own stones and I know Victor gives a slight discount if both stone and setting are purchased with him.

It is probably going to be a matter of balancing the specs you want with what is available at the time versus what each of the suggested vendors can cut for you within your budget. Or alternatively if there is nothing suitable, lower your specs to include genuine Old Cuts.

Re: Old European Round / August Vintage Round / Antique Cut

According to Grace's description, 100% eye clean. Seems like eye clean SI2 is a good trade off over size or color.
