I am pretty in love with old cuts and thanks to Pricescope found oldworlddiamonds.com -- their listing have a color grades listed as CAP -- I have NO idea what that means!!! Doesn''t seem wicked yellow or dark -- I am digging the warmth of this particular stone -- any ideas what it means????

Ohh, this appears to be a very pretty stone! Love the facets, they look very crisp!

Cap color means CAPE, which is the equivalent of GIA color M-R, definitely a yellow tint.

Definitely NOT a bad trait if that is what you like - my best friend has a 3.54ct OEC that is M/N color that is GORGEOUS - you just gotta love it for what it is.

The very thin girdle also concerns me a tad, although looking at the photos, its tough to see if there are any chips or nicks to the girdle.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

I just HEART old cut diamonds!

Ahhh, well that helps so much. I am not so much bothered by color (thank GOD) and this looked really really pretty and it seriously spoke to me. I would probably want to see it in person to make a decision. I just loved the cleaness and sparkle and those big chunky facets. Although I LOVE the AGA 000 cuts this just has a little more personality to me.

Would love to hear a few more thoughts from an Pscopers who might have old european cuts -- whatcha think???????

Sylons, you could try a search for OEC diamonds and have a blast looking, there are lots of threads in the archives!

And a lot more character in my opinion:

Here is an example of a nice OEC:

And another rare OEC (Fancy Intense Yellow)

Old cut diamonds have character and now a degree of rarity that modern cut diamonds don''t share. They are not for everyone and the supplly of good ones is not nearly as overwhelming as with newly cut stones, but they represent another good choice for many consumers. A thin girdle is very typical with old cuts.

I am so happy to see that Old World D. now has pics for a lot of their stones. Very interesting to look at all of those old cuts....

Slyons--do you see the way that the cutlet in the pic [in the link] reflects all over the bottom side of the stone? That is sooo cool.

Thanks for all your responses! DiaGem thos pics are awesome! I do love the OEC. Old Mine are pretty cool too. I''m a little concerned that M/N could be a little "too" yellow for me -- I seem to be mostly drawn to J-K stones. I may have to take a walk at lunch tomorrow to M. Khordipour and check out some real life old stones . . .
