I've been doing some research on diamonds and was initially attracted to the old European cut, which lead me to find the August Vintage cut (http://youtu.be/Ew1ZGfhXXsg?t=1m14s). This is my favorite cut that I've found so far because of the petal shapes inside the table and the nice, soft pastel colors it reflects. However, this cut seems a bit pricey - a few thousand dollars more than comparable, normal round cuts.
Are there other cuts with qualities comparable to those of the August Vintage cut? Mainly, the petal shapes, large facets, and reflection of pastel colors.
In a perfect world, I would like to buy a 1.75-2ct J SI1 or better with the same qualities as the August Vintage for $8-12k. Is that at all reasonable, or do I need to readjust my expectations?
