I thought you all would enjoy seeing this, even though it's not a strand.

Several years ago, I bought it from a lady at a yard sale for $50! :o

She was moving out of the country and her new home in Peru had already been broken into, so she figured she would sell off all her jewelry so it wouldn't get stolen. How weird is that?

If I had more money with me, I could have gotten more goodies, but what can you do?

It's marked 14K, and I'm interested to know if the pearls are real or cultured, or what.

What do you think?

No clue on the pearls, but I like it!

How do you wear it? I'm thinking it would make a fantastic wrap-skirt pin 8)

What a lovely little pin! It is really cute but to see it next to the coin for size, just wow. I think it looks like the swallow could just fly away, it has a very graceful positioning of the wings and tail.

Congrats!

LOOKY WHAT I FOUND! :appl: :appl:

I have been searching auction sites, and I found this one at the Skinner Auction of Boston site!

Antique 14kt Gold and Seed Pearl Bird Brooch, pave-set with split seed pearls, ruby eye, lg. 2 in., partial maker's mark possibly for Sloan & Co.
Estimate $400-500
Sold for $889

If these aren't twins, I don't know what is!

So apparently the pearls are real, and I didn't realize it was a ruby eye.

I guess this type of seed pearl isn't cultured, right? Can you imagine SPLITTING these little suckers? The pearls are like 2 mm!
