Hi all,

Well my ring arrived at Leon''s yesterday. We had a chat and I decided that I really want more ''presence'' from my ring. I have a 2.1ct F SI2 ES from WF (how many more 2-letter acronyms can I fit in?). I had thought of haloing but something in me just isn''t a halo gal, even though I adore looking at them. Rounds in the size I want are too expensive, so it''s down to shields or the perennial PS favourite, pears.

Leon has already sent me pics of my stone with some pears and shields. They are both 1.05ctw total and about the same price. I just don''t know which I like better! (nothing new here!)

When I look at the shields I think ''oooh, pretty and a little bit different'' which I like, when I look at the pears, I think ''ooooh pretty and so classic and elegant'' The only thing I prefer about shields is that they seem to join better to the round, there''s more contact area. Do the shields look a tad big to anyone? I think these are just to give me ideas though and Leon could look for other sized sides if I want.

Everyone was so helpful in my decision of Michael B v Leon, so I''m hoping for more of that good PS advice! And if anyone has any other sidestone ideas bring it on! p.s. my ring size is 6 if that makes any difference.

First the shields:

now the pears:

They do have a nice flow...

I like the pears... something about the roundness to all three stones. What does Leon think? Is it the photo, but your center stone looks bigger with the pears?

Anyway, I think you can''t go wrong either way with a leon.

Gosh, I like them both! What kind of wedding band do you plan on wearing. That might make a difference in which I chose.

yellowsparkles - it''s just the picture. I wish I could make my stone grow like that!

ds2006 - I think I will just wear a plain knife-edge plat band. And maybe a thin eternity at some point. Are you thinking that if I had a wedding band with stones say rounds they might look better with one rather than the other sides?

a

Yes, that is what I was thinking. I wouldn''t get into too many different shapes or it might make the rings look like they don''t go together. But wear a thin knife-edge band would let the Leon ring be the main attraction and that would be fine. I am thinking a thin eternity band with rounds might make me lean toward the pears just to keep everything rounded maybe. But the shields are different, and I like that idea, too.

I like both. The roundness of the pears complements the center round; however, I could see a beautiful vintage look come forth from the shields.

Pears.

I LOVE the pears.

Either way, that is going to be one beautiful (and big!

) ring!

Thanks everyone for your input. I was thinking I''m set on the pears then FireGoddess'' comment on the vintage feel got to me and made me think again...

hmmmmm....... thinking..... agonising..... obsessing.....

p.s. BigDiamonds, I''m quite tall, 5''9" so I think the size of the ring should be okay without looking too big on me. I tried on a 3-stone with rounds (2ct center, 2 x 1ct) this morning and I thought - yep, for the first time I can say... these diamonds look too much on me! Hard to believe I know coming from a PS''er...

Hee hee, I got nothin'' on you baby!

I am going to be the odd one and vote for the shields- they are so unique and gorgeous and would really make you center stone "pop" and your ring be a true original.

But I am one of those people that likes being different.

dtnyc - my gut reaction was for the shields. I do really want my ring to be interesting to me. Thanks for the perspective.

I am a pear lover (duh) but I have to say I am really drawn to the shields. The angular nature of those stones really lends itself to a beautiful vintage design, which is what seriously makes me keep thinking about those!! Not to mention how unique the combination is.

Are you kidding? I just have a conventional RB. No LM for me.
I like the pears!

I''ve never seen shield shaped stones before, but I really, really like how they look next to the round! They''re kind of like baguettes with a twist, and almost wing-like (as opposed to the leaf-like look of the pears). I''d go with them- what a unique (yet claissic) ring!

However, is the shield on the left wider than the one on the right? I feel like I can see a slight difference especially if I look down closer to the tips... Perhaps its just the camera angle, but I''d double check that with Leon if you decide to go with the shields.

Good luck deciding, although you really can''t make a bad decision on this one!

Well, I''ve totally confused myself.

At very first glance, I liked the pears. But now, more and more I like those shields!!!

If I were you angeline, I''d take a day or two with the pictures..."live with them" so to speak..and AVOID deciding right away.

Hopefully the right ''answer'' will come with a little time.

FireGoddess, do you have any examples of what you might mean? I''m not too good with knowing what a vintage design looks like, I''ve always been drawn to more modern designs but I am growing (rapidly) in appreciation of other styles since reading PS.

Harriet - poor you with your ''conventional'' 3ct MONSTER! and I won''t go into some earrings that are arriving soon...

Havernell - I''ll definitely check out the fine details with Leon once I decide. Thanks for the heads-up.

Widget - waiting is good advice. I keep thinking I''ve got to hurry and let Leon know, like he might change his mind or something about making my ring which is completely ridiculous I know!

The shields have edged up and are a nose in front!

Pears all the way.

I''m biased as I have pear sides, but I do like the shields!!! What speaks to you?? As widget wisely said, take some time, and think it over. You''ll know what is right for you and for your stone. Good luck deciding, they are both lovely!!!

How beautiful! I myself am in the "pear" camp...but whatever you choose will be beautiful.

Amazing centre stone btw

I had a hard time trying to find something that represents what I envision, but when it comes to vintage inspired design I think things like milgraining, less sleek design. The angularity of the shields speaks to me in an Art Deco sort of way. Here''s a vintage piece from Fay Cullen, and while not exactly what I would envision, you can see that the inner section of each side of the band even looks like the shape of your shields. Know what I mean? That''s what hits me when I see the shields next to the round. I wish I could give a better example - there are better jewelry designers than me on PS though!!! LOL.

Both are completely gorgeous! I actually like the shields better.

Here''s why:

A) You are never going to encounter a ring quite like it on the street
B) It still looks like a classic three-stone ring
C) The shields are going to look awesome with leon''s pointy prongs and I think the pointy prongs match better with pointy sides rather than pears
D) I like geometric looks rather than organic looks...but this is personal preference obviously

Angeline, I like them both, but I like the shields better. I would probably be fretting too because it's a big commitment and sometimes it's easier to go with the classic solution. You can't go wrong with the pears - the look is really nice.

Something about those shields though - for me, this would be my hands-down choice. The shape is so different! The other thing I like about them is the degree of "action", for lack of a better term. I think the degree flashiness of the cut for the shields compliments the RB nicely, rather than competing.

Does that make sense?

something about the shields has me loving them more than the pears. whatever you decide will be gorgeous. both choices are divine.

I like the pears better but agree that you should take a couple of days to see which you''d prefer and which one you are less likely to tire of..
