AW Freke, I am so sorry you are feeling that way. I know how stressful it must be for you, not being able to be with your mother. I hope she will be able to come home soon. Please keep us updated ok?

I am sending you a great big hug.

Update:

When asked when she''s getting out of the hospital, my mom said, "Tomorrow."
Me: "They got your test results back? They''re going to discharge you tomorrow?"
Mom: "No. I''m checking myself out if I don''t get discharged."
Me: "What?!"
Mom: "Yeah. You heard me. I''m tired of not sleeping, and I want to go home and hang out with my dog."
Me: "Well ok then. You''re going to bust out of the hospital. Great. Will you call me when you get home from there then?"
Mom: "Yeah."

So come h3ll or high water, she is going home tomorrow.

Freke, your mom sounds like such a spitfire (in an awesome way!). I hope that her test results come back with good results. Good luck with your midterms.

Freke, you mom is too much. I hope her test results come back OK. Please let us know!!!!!!!

Good luck on your tests too.

Linda

She''s a fighter. She''s had to be...been doing this (and other dreadful things) for the past 7 and a half years. I hope I''m as tough as her when I get older.

I am an awful person, but I didn''t study for my tests!!!! I spent all day completing my take home midterm yesterday and today and I decided to be a slacker. However, I am going to get up early and study before the first test and then after that one is over for the second one. I''m not too worried about it.

Instead I decided to make ice cream! So anyone who wants some caramel/banana ice cream, come and get it!!!! (I''m considering throwing Heath bar into it...Hmmmm...

Oh, and I''m totally wired at 1:11am. Tomorrow is going to kind of suck. (And I haven''t even had any ice cream yet!)

That ice cream sounds yummy Freke! Hope your tests go well!

Sending good wishes on your tests Freke and my hubby said he will take the WHOLE bucket of your ice cream.

Did your mother come home today??

Linda

Best of luck on your exams Freke. I''m sorry to hear that your mom is in hospital again. Enjoy your ice-cream.

Exams are over.

Ice cream is frozen.

Mom is sprung.

And I need to take a nap.

Does the nap come before, or after eating the ice cream?

Glad your mom is out!

Hope it is a good day and your mom''s results are okay.

That ice cream sounds divine. YES to adding heath bar!

Freke,

How did your ice cream turn out???????

Never got to take the nap.

I actually had to refreeze the ice cream. Hahahaha!!! So I spent yesterday doing it by hand. And I did add Heath bar.

Tests came back fine, she''s at home. She''s excited about us going over there to make soup.

I ended up tasting the ice cream last night. I threw a couple chunks of pound cake in there too. The ice cream is pretty sweet (bananas were overripe), and the pound cake wasn''t very sweet so that was pretty good.

I feel so much better now that the midterms are done, and I got to sleep in until almost noon today. Hahahaha!!!

I''m going to go paint my toenails!

The ice cream sounds delicious. I am so glad your moms tests came back fine. What a relief. Will you please give her a big hug for me?

What kind of soups are you going to make?? I bet the will be yummmmmmy.

Your posts always make me sooooo hungry!!!!!!!!!! The ice cream sounds delicious!!!!!!

I''m glad your Mom''s tests came back fine, enjoy making soup with her tonight!

I will Linda.

I''m going to be making cream of asparagus and cheddar with broccoli. She keeps changing her mind. I''m going to toss spinach in there where ever I can, and I''m thinking of making some kind of beef soup, but I haven''t figure that out yet. I might just make the cream soups with a beef broth base so she gets that in her.

I''m sorry my posts make you hungry LTP.

Perhaps I''ll make a creamy butternut squash soup too. I bet she''d like that one...

HI:

FC, I was reading about the latest ceramic knives--super sharp and stay that way with little maintainence. Know much/anything about them?

cheers--Sharon

I''ve heard that people really love them because you don''t really do any sharpening to them at all, they won''t have any reaction to any foods (like metal can have with acids) and are really pretty fantastic in general. I''d get one because people really love them, and I''d make sure to only use them on plastic or wooden surfaces to preserve the sharp edge as much as possible.

I have stainless steel knives, that actually really need to be sharpened, now that I think about it, and I love them, but it''d be so awesome to have a knife I wouldn''t have to worry about.

Freke, sorry it's taken so long to write back..I didn't forget about you, I promise. I went from a 36dd to a 36b or around there. The experience has been great and I'm really glad I had it done. I know that I'm still young and they might still have room to grow, but for now I'm happy. I'm super excited I get to share my love of jewelry and my surgery with someone else!

Btw, glad to hear your mom is home from the hospital and doing better.

Freke - you''re making my mouth water will all these fabulous recipes.

I have a question for you. I''ve been working on a recipe, I do couscous with a mashed black bean recipe that I''ve tweaked. We do the black beans over the cous cous. The black beans are mashed black beans (two cans) with 3 cups chicken broth (or veggie as I sometimes prefer), jalapeno peppers, onions and garlic, and I''ve tweaked it by adding paprika and hot sauce, but I feel like it''s missing something. We like it as a spicy dish.... any thoughts?

Cosmo I know what you mean about being young and having room to grow. I was only...21? Maybe 22? I think? When I got my surgery, and they''ve gone from a C (directly after surgery) to a D (a month or so after surgery) and now they''ve settled to being a DD--which is a huge improvement compared to what they were before! And it''s nice having people around that you share common things with, isn''t it?

dragonfly Oh no! Not a cooking question! Lol. I love couscous btw, but I have to do some crazy stuff to it to get FF to eat any. He seems to like it if it''s got a bunch of random stuff in it or if I replace half of the liquid with tomato sauce, AND throw a bunch of stuff in there. Whatever, he''s weird.

So what is it exactly that you''re wanting out of the recipe? Do you want it to be spicier/hotter? Is it a flavor that you think might be missing? Maybe a combination of the two?

So far we''ve got:
chicken/veggie broth
couscous
black beans
jalapenos (are these from a jar or fresh?)
onions
garlic
paprika
hot sauce (what kind? Like a Louisiana? Mexican? I''m guessing not Asian...)

I''m assuming that you''re throwing salt and black pepper in there, because I throw it in everything, so let me know if that is in there or not.

I''ll think about it in the meantime, because it sounds like something I might convince FF to eat!!

Hmmm...and I forgot to mention that I now have two ering stones for FF to choose between.

Choice phrases I''ve heard from him after seeing them both together:

"They look almost identical."

"This one has more going on inside."

"I don''t like this box. I might put them together, but then I wouldn''t be able to tell them apart. So that won''t work. I need a different box. This one just doesn''t have enough cushy stuff in it."

"Do you have another box that''s different? I can''t tell them apart when they are in the same kind and size boxes."

"I think I''m going to get someone else to look at them. I need a second opinion."

"Well, they''re both blue..."

"They don''t look good under halogens."

"They''re both sparkly. This one might be sparklier than the other one...no wait this one is more sparkly. Well...I don''t know."

"Can I borrow the gem stick thing sometime so I can look at them outside?"

And then I sent him a link to the LIW list and he looked at it and said:

"Looks like you''re number 24."

And nothing else.

I might have to kick him.

I STARTED OUT AT #118 OR SOMETHING RIDICULOUS!!! ALMOST A YEAR AGO!!!! AGH!!!!

Ok. I''ll go back to being patient again now, I just had to get that out of my system.

Soup is made. Cream of asparagus, creamy butternut squash, and then my mom requested a weird coffee cake made with apricot preserves. She didn''t eat much, but I felt pretty good about getting her to eat some of it at least. And then I made a ton, so we got to bring it home and have it for dinner too.

I''m considering asking for just a plain ol'' band for an ering. Or, lately I''ve gotten really tempted to just ask him myself. Seriously.

Freke - I think it's more of a flavor... It's plenty spicy. I put pepper and just a smidge of salt, I don't eat a lot of salty salty stuff so, just enough for a twinge. I dunno, maybe I should try a tad more..... hmmmm

and comments are funny

I'm going back to look at your shoe pics now, I keep meaning to share mine with you over in shopping, but haven't had a moment this week, so hectic!!

ETA - I hope your mom is doing well today!

How is your mom doing???

Oh my goodness! Which way did you make them? Did you take any pictures? Did they turn out ok?

My mom is ok. I am going to go visit her this weekend sometime before school starts going NUTS because it's time for finals to gear up. Her birthday was Oct 23, so we went over there and heated up dinner (she has a helper that cooks, runs errands and whatever she wants now) and so they bought stuff to warm up from Whole Foods, so I heated up spaghetti, made some green beans, made garlic toast, opened up a big can of mandarin oranges (because I wanted some!) and then cut up the birthday cake my aunt bought for her. And not only did she eat everything I put on her plate, she asked for extra garlic bread! I was so so happy.

My professor (it's my second semester with her, she's super sweet although slightly crazy, she had breast cancer as well, and she knows my mom has been in and out of the hospital) pulled me aside a week ago to ask if I would like her to write my mom a letter telling her how good of a student I am, because she's worried that she won't be able to meet my mom when I graduate. I wasn't sure about it, so she told me to think about it, and that the offer was on the table. While it's incredibly nice of her, I'm a bit...perplexed about it. I don't really know what to think.

ETA: A girl can never have enough stones or shoes. Especially this girl.
