Thanks for posting the link to that article, mz. I really enjoyed it. I do think that Tiger Woods'' statement that personal problems should not require a press conference, etcetera, should be taken in context, though. I wouldn''t call him an impartial observer of the social scene right now.

But I think that actually goes against the nature of a man. But women are very aware of how weak men are when it comes to this kind of temptation - a weakness which is in my opinion quite natural. We all know the comments like how a man''s barins are in his pants, and other remarks like it. They have a truth to them. So why is anyone surprised when we actually take the bait?
Why is anyone surprised? Probably because the man stoop up in front of friends and family and vowed to not "take the bait", and then signed a document entering into a legally binding contract of marriage which generally heavily involves manogomy? On top of the countless times he promised to be faithful to his wife?
''Being a man'' is not a good reason to break these promises and vows. If they can''t do it, or don''t want to do it, then they shouldn''t say they can do it. If they want to roam, or slip up, they should at least have the decency to come clean before putting their wives at risk of contracting STDs.
We have evolved beyond animals. Some of these excuses just don''t wash anymore.

Phew...I obviously feel strongly about this, and I''ve never even been cheated on (to my knowledge)! Sorry Klewis, that wasn''t aimed directly at you.

As for Tiger...well he''s a sportsman, end of story. It shouldn''t matter what he does in his personal time. It doesn''t make him less of a golfer, and it''s not the public he cheated. But the fact of the matter is, his career choice puts him in the media, like it or not. His career choice gives him power, money and fame. It does make him a role model for kids, like it or not. There is a responsibility with that. Might not be fair, I might not agree with it, but it is what it is.

I have no idea what really happened, I don''t know either of them, and it doesn''t affect me whatsoever so it''s not for me to judge.

But it''s fun to speculate!

Since we are all only speculating here, I will share my speculations. I never thought for a second that Elin (is that how you spell her name?) hit Tiger with a golf club! Apparently neighbors heard him screaming at her that she had ''ruined Thanksgiving''. He was found with scratches on his face, but no airbags had been deployed. I therefore inferred that he got the scratches before he left the house (probably fled the house). Since his wife was allegedly found with a gold club near the SUV, which had at least one broken window, I had surmised that she followed Tiger out of the house and hit the car as he was trying to leave...causing him to hit the hydrant and tree. I don''t know where anyone got the information on broken teeth and his being hit with a golf club back in the house...but if he was, how do we know he wasn''t hit in self-defense? No one else was there and the man was yelling at his wife for ''ruining Thanksgiving''. Why do I doubt that his wife would suddenly just pick up a golf club and knock out his teeth for the heck of it?

I''m with the wife! (But if facts lead to another place, I''ll follow the facts.)

If my husband (let''s pretend here, ok??) was a major athlete in the public eye and I had just found out he spent the past 3 years cheating on me and he yelled at ME for RUINING THANKSGIVING... My oh my.. I think ALL of the golf clubs and some choice words would be flying his way!! And no, I''m not at all a violent person.

from what read that pre-nup is being re-written.......and she''s going to make millions. i''m sure she''d rather have a faithful husband but it appears she''s just as an astute business woman as he is a business man.

in an ideal world our icons/heros would be all we want them to be......however, even the greek gods had a hard time with that and thus were imbued with all the human frailities to remind us of our own sins.

I was watching some news coverage the other day where a long-time sports reporter opined that at least 90% of professional athletes cheat. That its a GIVEN in the industry and the wives that marry them once they''ve become a professional athlete know what they''re signing up for (which is why pre nups are often written the way Elin''s was -- with large payouts if you "make it" through a number of years).

Now - if that''s the case ... I feel a lot sorrier for the women who marry high school or college athletes who then BECOME pro athletes. They probably didn''t know what they were in for at the time.

There''s morality & then there''s practicality --- yes its morally wrong for any pro athletes (or rock stars or politicians) to cheat on their wives. But common sense would lead most folks to assume all of the above would be "cheaters". Women have a choice whether to marry these guys in the first place. And those who do so probably have more on their minds than L-O-V-E .... IMHO.

Yes I agree with you Porridge, a vow is a vow so there''s no excuse. But what of the responsibility, if any, of the bait-danglers, when we all know our brains (barins?) reside in our pants?
11.gif

Another thing - If some guy attacked his celebrity wife with a golf club and hit her in the head with it, all because he discovered she was cheating on him, would we still think "Good on him, she deserved it" or would we hold him to a different and higher set of standards?

I agree, Porridge. The whole "I am caveman, must spread seed!" argument, while true to an extent, doesn't excuse a man from cheating on his partner. If he feels a strong urge to spread said seed (

), he should a) find someone willing to enter into an open relationship/marriage or b) remain single, Clooney-style.

I think Elin's reaction proved the opposite was true in her case. Had she married Tiger only for his money, she wouldn't have been so upset. That was the first thing my father said. He said, "She's clearly not in it just for the money; she's acting like a hurt wife."

I tend to agree with you that she WASN''T in it for the money -- and *is* hurt & shocked. She may NOW choose to stay because of the $$. They are offering her what ... 80 million or something? His management considers her to be the perfect wife because she is very private, doesn''t take the kids out in public, is not trying to be a star herself ... and looks the part.

Tiger is a special case too ... because he really has that innocent, baby-face, quiet nerdy kind of thing about him. You wouldn''t THINK he''d be a dog like some of those steroid-ed up He-Men. I can believe that she believed he''s be a good husband & father. Too bad she was wrong.

The whole thing has been pretty disappointing for my husband - he''s been a Tiger fan forever, so he thought it was really not that classy for him to be running around with a bunch of tramps when he has a beautiful wife & two babies waiting for him at home. I''m a little more jaded, though, so I guess I always expect that when men have that kind of money, power, and fame, affairs are par for the course.

We had kind of a laugh today, though, because we remembered something that happened a couple of years ago when we went to see Tiger play at a tournament. We werew standing right next to him at a hole, and I was wearing a sundress and showing some cleavage, and my DH noticed that Tiger was staring at my boobs (I''m naturally busty). I turned to look, and low and behold, he was definitely staring. He kept sneaking peaks at them until they moved on to the next hole. My DH and our friends were all cracking up about it later, and I teased DH that I could have had Tiger if we both weren''t married. I guess Tiger doesn''t care so much about the marriage part

Yes definitely some of the responsibility lies with the bait-danglers. There are definitely women out there who are attracted to wedding rings! But in my opinion more than 90% lies with the cheater (male or female).

No, violence is violence, no matter who commits it it isn''t ok. I didn''t comment on it because I don''t know what happened, none of us do.

i''m sure his dad knew about the "business" side of golf.....years ago this was all the news about the parties, the play girls, the golfers, the cheating, etc. nothing new. it was around before tiger''s dad got tiger into it and it will be around a lot longer. i''m sure he counseled his son on this topic too.

Us Weekly senior editor Bradley Jacobs said he believes Grubbs came forward to talk to the magazine because she felt scorned after hearing that Tiger Woods allegedly had been involved with other women.

"Jaimee Grubbs wanted to tell her story once Rachel Uchitel''s name started surfacing as a potential mistress," Jacobs said. "She started feeling bitter and sad about it because she thought she was the only woman besides his wife, and she wanted to tell her story."

One thing I never knew about him was his temper and that he had a foul mouth.. I had no clue he cursed like a sailor!!

I wish his wife all the best going forward, I can''t imagine the pain of learning that he had an affair for 3 years..... Oh and the other chicks??

I hope he makes a huge change for his wife and his family....

She better get tested.... For real...

Yup the Tiger image is unraveling fast. The worst part to me is he cheated for 3 years and only married 5? And if his oldest is 2 this means he started cheating when she was pregnant! Gosh guess she wasn''t sexy enough pregnant so he stooped down to these sleazy attention hogs (I was actually thinking of another word, but will refrain ;))

Apparently he''s offered his wife 5 million to stay, and 11 mill a year thereafter, meaning she could be an 80 million dollar woman after 7 more years. This was reported on CNN before anyone says not to make assumptions, blah blah. The reasoning for the payout is he is a 100 mill a year brand so this is all part of trying to salvage it. Same reason why I stated he would not just quietly go away.

Listen to the Tiger Woods jokes toward the end of Carl Kasell's Countdown. LMAO! "Golf *will* turn anyone...." lol!

My mother says T W's "mistresses" are all high priced call girls.

I don't watch golf, so I don't have any particular interest in Tiger. But if Peyton Manning was in this situation, I have to say I'd be a little disappointed, but I'd still think he was an awesome player (and hilarious in commercials). I've never really been one to idolize sports players beyond their skill in the sport though.

And I know many people joke about his wife and the golf club, but I'm a staunch believer that domestic violence goes both ways. I don't care how upset you are or whether you are a man or a woman, it is not OK to physically harm or threaten your spouse (self defense is a different matter). I'm just annoyed that people think it's alright for a woman to act out physically in anger, but I think it just reinforces the negative stereotypes that women are irrational, vengeful, and controlled by emotion. And for those of you who don't think a woman can "really physically hurt a man", I know a few sparring partners who would beg to differ (and I wasn't even using a club).

I, also, am a firm believer that violence against humans and other living things by women is unacceptable. I have been laughing about the golf club because, as far as I know, it was used only against a car. And if that is all Elin bashed in, I think it is fine. How about a little Carrie Underwood to get the rest of you in the right spirit?

Yeah, at this point, I think she should just go ahead and leave the man. I wouldn''t give a care about the $$, I would go back to being a nanny before giving him another chance after ALL these women are coming out of the woodwork....seriously, it sounds like he had a girl in every major city. UGH! That is really disgusting. I''m still not shocked, but I am shaking my head.

That said, all of the media negativity does seem to be having an effect.

I was in Target today, and all of the Tiger Woods Gatorade products were on the sales rack for 30% off, and looks like they were on the way to ''close out''.
