So yeah, I’m going to Tampa and play dress up! Although I won’t be buying it, I plan to check out that three stone emerald cut. I’ve never seen a step cut of that size in person. I’m super curious! And it would be awesome to shop together!!!

SURPRISE! We ended up getting to go this afternoon. Here’s all 5+ carats of EC deliciousness!


This ring was mind-blowing! Frank (the owner) said he’d give a deal of $35k for it. I was shocked at the price. Is that good? These stones are H/I-VVS and I just fell into them when I looked at them.

Oh, and remember how I said they had a store full of old cuts? These cases are full of only antique rings!

He brought this one out to show me as it’s a favorite of his and he knows I’m an Art Deco lover. He said this is one of the best examples he’s seen (and he’s been doing this for 50 years). It’s a 1.3 H-VS center in platinum I believe.

Unfortunately I don’t have the $35k for it. I wish I did. He said that buying a similar center stone on Blue Nile is around the same price for that ring. I haven’t confirmed that, but I wouldn’t be surprised!

So beautifully cut...all 3....in harmony!!! Oh my!!! OH MY, OH MY!!!
I believe he’s right about the BN quote. I’ll check it out, but I know it’s close, if not, spot on! The two side stones are close to $10k a piece!

If the average asking price of a 2.5-2.7ct G-J VVS EC is $25k-$30k, unset, and loose....$35k for that 3 stone EC set in Platinum with baguettes on the shoulders is a bargain!

I don’t know the dimensions. He did tell my husband and I the history of the ring, though. He said that his wife has a similar one, although the stones are of lesser quality. Their friends wanted one with much better stones. So many years ago, he helped source the stones and made the ring. Now the friends are looking to sell it for about what they paid for it all those years ago so it’s on consignment with Frank.

Added: I have a feeling that ring will sit, and sell for much less than it’s worth. EC’s are just not popular enough for them to move like OEC’s, MRB’s, and every other brilliant cut diamond. They are tough to sell....even as well cut & flashy as that ring is (not to mention the SIZE & finger coverage)!!!
If I were in the market and had $35k+ budget for diamonds, I’d purchase that & separate it: earrings and a ring or pendant. CvB would be my next stop with those projects.
