I have came into a pretty decent amount of money. I've been wanting to purchase an OEC diamond for a few months now and was lucky enough for finally making a sell and now having the money in hand to move forward with this adventure. The main thing I keep getting hung up on is should I put the bigger amount of funds on the stone OR should I get a stone and maybe a more elaborate setting from the start? Something keeps telling me go for the size and put it in a simple solitaire setting for now and then go all out with the setting in the future. But I just don't want it to take away from the gorgeous antique nature of the diamond. I have a meeting with my jeweler this afternoon to look at a few OECs they have on hand just to get an idea of culet and color I might favor. I'm so nervous at taking this on since my Husband was such a tremendous help with my 3 stone and the jeweler being someone he has known his entire life since childhood, just kind of made that process a little easier and I've done and stated that this ring will be entirely my baby. So I thought Pricescope would be the perfect place to come to and get some help on my situation.

Hi, you didn't specify if you will wear it as right hand ring or replace your current ring. I really think that info. matters, especially bc you need to consider if you will feel comfortable wearing a solitaire on the right hand. I would think that if it is a rhr, the more elaborate the setting, the better. Otherwise, you would have to consider how long you would want the oec sitting around without full-time wear.

Hi nala! :wavey: It will only be worn on my left hand when days I'll be wearing it. Those days my 3 stone will be wore as my right hand ring if I'm to wear it at all. So yes, the OEC will be another engagement style ring for me so that is really making it hard for me to decide to jazz it up now and get a smaller stone or get the larger stone and maybe even go custom in the future with a more flashier setting.

Also if it helps my budget for this is 20k with me having around another 4k in my "Diamond Fund" if I must use it. I would really rather not if I don't need to but if push comes to shove I will. So if I went with a simple setting I could get a stone somewhere in the 1.75ct to 2.10ct all depending on the color cut clarity of the stone. My jeweler is pretty good crunching numbers and getting/giving great deals since they do a lot of private estate sells and work a lot with antique pieces/stones.

I would go with a simple setting for now (but still put some of the money away for the "real" setting). I think with these
old stones you need to wear them for a while (or just own them for a while) and get to know their personality before
you can figure out what you/they need in a setting. I think it puts a lot of pressure on you to pick out the perfect forever
setting from the start. I know some people can do that without a problem...I'm just not one of them. I need time to
think.

That's very true tyty333. I got to see 5 really amazing stones today ranging in size from 1.15ct to a 3.32ct that was someone's else's already and each and everyone of them was different. I really feel in love with a 2.17ct K color. I can't for the life of me remember the clarity but it was eye clean and a fire cracker! Plus they showed me a couple different styles of settings that still don't look so modern that it would take way from the stone, but it was just for an idea were I spoke to them about what I had in mind. I thought I was a really big culet person as well cause they are always so beautiful in pictures but in person I was really drawn to those with a smaller culet and man all those flashes of light and color was truly amazing! :naughty:
