OEC Setting Help Please!

Hi everyone - I bought an OEC for my Mom and showed her a couple setting options, and she seemed to like the classic Tiffany solitaire setting best. However, she also thought the stone holder was an actual ring, and she liked that the stone was so high up and that she could see the profile of the stone from all angles, hehe.

Because the stone isn't huge, I feel like the classic six prong setting might cover up too much of the stone? I'm thinking a four prong setting in the swoopy Tiffany style would be best (white gold), but I'm not sure where to look. We are pretty flexible on the setting budget and can go either the stock or custom route, within reason (~$1500). I'd love any suggestions and input - thanks!

I should have put the stone dimensions in my original email:

1.24 carats
6.59 - 6.77 x 4.55 mm

The stone has an extra facet and I can't tell whether that makes it wonky and necessitates a custom setting?

I also like CVB settings, and I think 6 prongs is fine when the prongs are delicate like Caysie makes. Here are a couple more.

Take in consideration the thickness of the girdle. Many OEC's have extremely thin girdles that put them at risk for chipping when set in solitaires. Lovely OEC and so sweet that you bought it for you mother.

I know you said 4 prong and the setting recommended above would suit that. Caysie's Jovyn has teeny tiny prongs though which wouldn't cover much of the stone... and I'm pretty sure you can ask her to set the stone higher if that's what your mum likes

Another vote for CVB's Jovyn... She can set it higher and make the prongs however you'd like.

Excellent point, Lisa! Check the grading report and see if your girdle is anything thinner than thin, and if so, I'd recommend 6 prongs, a bezel, or a halo because very thin girdles can chip!

A 6 prong style is always ideal for max protection of the diamond, and is in keeping with the classic Tiffany style, though I've had many clients go with 4 prongs on this size diamond with no issues. It depends on how your mom plans to wear it (does she want to wear it 24/7 and not think about it, or is she ok with removing it when she's using her hands, etc.) - I'm always of the mind that one should insure it and enjoy it, setting it however you like within reason, but if it's a highly sentimental piece, a more protective setting might be best.

Ok thanks everyone!! Caysie it is. The girdle is medium-slightly thick so all good on that front. I was mainly thinking four prongs because my Mom wants to be able to see as much of the diamond from the side as possible - that makes sense right? She won't be wearing it for housework, etc. so I don't think it will get knocked around too much.

I'm going to be the odd one out if you want to save money I'd go for a Stuller Crown setting google Stuller crown setting on the Stuller website and indeed on here and you will find stones of all sizes look good in it.

If you're worried about 6 prongs taking up too much room, don't be. It is common for 6 prong settings where the individual prongs are thinner than individual prongs on a 4 prong setting. You will find terrific light performance from diamonds set in both 4 and 6 prong configurations.
