Hi OEC owners

I am considering OEC as pendant, probably a 5-6mm stone. I have been looking at the beautiful stones that you generously shared on PS, also looked at JbEG and OWD, but since I have never seen one IRL, would you please help educate me?

  • I love the flowery patterning of OEC. Do you think I'd be able to see the pattern on a 5mm stone? if not, at what size would I be able to see without aid?

  • I understand that the flashes would be bolder, bigger. Comparing to a RB of similar size face up, would you think the difference significant?

  • OEC on JbEG sites are so colorful and often with bright green flashes (I suppose they picked up surrounding colors?). In terms of color, how are OEC compared to RB?

  • How would a 5-6mm OEC pendant compared to RB in your opinion?

My intention is really to understand what to expect from this cut and since I am more familiar with RB i have asked my questions in relation to it. Please feel free to share any observation and thoughts you have about OEC, particularly how you feel about it vs RB. Thank you in advance!

I hope someone else answer too, but I'll tell my own exrerience.

I have .75 quite nice cut oec in my pendant. I can't see facet pattern well ( maybe reason is in my old eyes :D or mirror is too far) but I definately see how crisp and sparkling it is due good cut. Of course when looking close enough I can see facets.

I have 1.35ct oec on my ring and it is large enough to see facets easily.

On my omc earrings, 1.38tcw and my 1.85tcw 3-stone ring I can see facets when close enough.

MRB's I have are very small, .20ct and they are totally different in nature. Old cuts and modern are so different, that I'm wrong person to compare them. I'm too fond of old ones, so it would be unfair to even try to compare :D

Sorry, not much help. Hope experts wake up soon :D :D

I have a 5mm OEC that I was going to set into a pendant before I found a 6.4mm one. The 6.4mm is 1.11ct and I think you can see the facets clearly. IMHO it's not so much about seeing the facets as it is on a pendant and most likely very few people will be within close enough range to see (much less appreciate) the facet patterning. More so, it's about the different type of sparkle and flashes that you would get from an OEC vs. a RB. I am very happy with my OEC pendant as the kind of shadow cast from being on your neck underneath your head seems to put it in just the right lighting all the time for OECs to sparkle at their best.

I have a 5 - 5.2mm OEC that I had set in a BGD Barbara pendant and I think its perfect - for me. I can definitely see the patterning and it is lovely and white and really beautiful. I've attached pics I took when I received it last June. I could easily go bigger but for now, this is just right :))

Confection10, thank you, very helpful input indeed! It's great to hear from someone who appreciates this cut. I hope someday I have a collection like yours ;))

pandabee, it is exactly the difference to RB that appeals to me. I want something unique. Your words are encouraging :lickout:

Enerchi, thank you for the pics . I am beginning to worry that I might fall in love with OEC. Can a woman love both RB and OEC equally?

GreenBling - we are equal opportunity diamond lovers here!! We do not judge --- you can love ANY diamond and always be welcome!! :D ;))

I also dabble in princess cuts too, with a growing interest in cheating with an EC ... the horror!! hahaha!!! :Up_to_something:

Love you all :D. Very encouraging words indeed. I was hesitant about getting an OEC for fear of falling out of love with RB. If you all are capable of loving more than one type of rounds then perhaps I should not deny my growing love for OEC.

I have a small OEC pendant, .3-.4ish (no idea of the size, really) and imo it is very clearly OEC and not RB flashes of light.

distracts, thank you. It's the chubby facets AND the bold flashes that I want so your words are reassuring.
