Hi,

I saw the following on JBEG site. However, I can't tell if this OEC is a great performer in the world of OECs. Any advice?

I looked at all its photos but can't seem to find a photo that shows its faceting well. Er, meaning I was looking for crisp flower facets but can't seem to find a photo that shows the faceting well. Can someone direct me to the photo number that shows a crisp flower faceting?

Thanks much.

JBEG seems to have an aversion to good pictures. It looks like it's worth seeing in person.

I would contact them. They are super nice ladies and very responsive. It looks promising but you're right, it's frustrating that there's no head on shots.

That's the problem. I can't see it in person. I'm not in US. If this diamond is shipped to me, I'll have to pay GST. If I return it, I don't know the procedure of getting my GST refund. That is why I've always bought from GOG which has good photos and videos.

I second maccers, contact them and ask for more info, and maybe more pics. I agree that sometimes JbEG pics can be hard to decipher, but for this particular ring I actually like the photos (though of course one super-detailed macro head shot would be very helpful too). I think the stone is very promising.

The JbEG ladies will certainly get you more photos... they did this for me and it was very helpful. I'm in Canada too, so I know what you mean about the shipping.

Me too (in Canada). I bought my stone from jbeg and they were very helpful.

Thanks, ladies. I will contact them then.

It is very simple to get your GST refund! I have done it a few times. Do not let that deterr you. When the diamond is shipped to you and you pay taxes you will ge ta shipping invoice indicating thetaxes you paid. If you return the ring all you need in the shipping label and the receipt showing the refund. You fill out a very simple form that is availavle online from the CRA, send all your documentation in, and wait for a check in the mail.

Sorry you found the photos unhelpful for the angle you wanted to see. We're always happy to take additional pics and video upon request. We don't have an aversion to good pics - we always try our best!

Hey, Erica. Since I was the one that said it...

I have noticed you post many (I don't know, upwards of 20) photos all from angles and in shadowy light, I just don't find any of them useful. All I need is a few, 1-2-3 photos, head on, and good lighting.

These are, IMO, photos that do their job: depict the subject well. Of course, it is a spectacular emerald and I'm sure we're only seeing the best photos of the "roll," and the objective of a vendor is not perfectly the same objective of someone who posts in Show Me the Bling!, but I thought I'd let you know how I felt after I saw this thread and realized I wasn't the only one.

Hi Dreamer, thanks for the info on GST refund. I'm not in Canada either. But I think the use of return shipping label and refund receipt should be similar in most countries. Now all I need to figure out is where to submit this info in my country. Thanks again.

I would just add that I would find pictures taken on a white surface with neutral background (not green leaves) far more helpful. I really cannot make out color or facet pattern from pics like these.

Thanks for the feedback! We receive emails every day complimenting our pictures and videos, but this type of constructive criticism is most helpful, since we rarely receive emails with negative pic feedback. We have set days when we must photograph certain pieces, and sometimes the weather and lighting don't cooperate, so we run around searching for the best spot to get the best pics we can during that photo shoot window. Because we always use natural lighting, it can really vary, and our goal is for our photos to represent, as accurately as possible, what the diamond looks like in person. That's not always possible, since sometimes conditions make things more challenging.

Some clients request pics of different pieces next to each other, on a white background, on a colored background, in brighter lighting, under a tree, in artificial lighting, loose in a mounting, in a stone holder, etc. It's just not possible for us to provide every requested option for every piece we carry - we stick with the broad style that the majority of our buyers seem to like (and which compliment our website and suit our personal aesthetic), and happily take additional requests as needed.

We will do our best to photograph our pieces in varying lighting conditions and from many angles, including using some more neutral backgrounds. But as the old adage goes, you can't please all of the people all of the time, which is why we're always happy to take additional photos for buyers under whatever conditions they want - simply drop us a line with your request and we'll happily do so.

I actually think the photos of the ring in question are really bright and beautiful, and there are several face up shots in the album, but obviously they're not quite meeting the needs of the OP, in which case we're happy to take more pics with the OP's direction regarding background and lighting. We truly are always happy to do so.

My jbEG diamond was represented with 43 photos in different lighting scenarios; and on a white background with the diamond in different positions in a ring holder. Plus 3 videos. The ladies have always been super nice and accommodating and because of their patience (and numerous photos) I was able to find my dream diamond.

You can enlarge the pics as well - there's a drop-down menu that enlarges the pic up to 3 times the original size.. by doing this I felt I got a very clear view of the facet pattern of this stone. There are several pics where the stone is facing front.
