OEC aset help! Old euro lovers please chip in!

I am on a bit of a mission to find a well cut OEC and have been having a most frustrating time. I potentially have something that I like but I was quite thrown by the aset images. Is this fish eye? Should I avoid? Could this be slightly recut to improve the light performance?

Any help would be much appreciated. I really like a lot of the faceting in the photos but aset makes me think the light leakage would be upsetting in real life.

That's a fascinating ASET - what does the stone look like in normal photos? I've got nothing useful to offer but I'm keen to see what more knowledgeable people think of the ASET

I think that's light leakage rather than a fish eye. Do you have any regular pictures?

Buying a stone with a recut in mind seems like a hassle. You have to find someone to recut it, trust them to do it well, pay for it, lose carat weight... If the cut bothers you, keep looking rather than attempting a recut.

I haven't seen many ASET's of actual old stones but I'd imagine there are a lot of in-person stunners that would not perform well in an ASET image. You've set a high bar. This one looks like it has potential to me, despite the leakage.

I'm assuming you're not interested in a newly cut, antique style OEC, like those available through Good Old Gold and Victor Canera?

Yea its leakage rather than a fish eye.
Buying a stone specifically for recutting unless its on the used market at a steep discount is rarely a good plan.
There are better ones out there.

Thank you everyone. I'll steer clear. I liked the crispness of the faceting which is why I was persevering so I wasn't expecting such a funny aset. It's incredibly symmetrical also which pleases me (I'm a stickler for cut!!). But without the light performance it'll just have symmetrical light leakage

OEC's have their own personalities. This is why it's wise to work with someone such as Erica or Grace or Adam at Old World Diamonds. They have a sense for the performance of each stone. It's my understanding that you can't judge an OEC by the ASET. I may be wrong - one of the sellers I mentioned could help you to find a lovely stone. Good luck to you.
