Hi! Just joined this fun site... :)

Sooo, I am a fiery diamond lover and happened to win this ring over Ebay from a jeweler with 100% rating and over 30,000 sales (wow, right?!)... well I have yet to receive it but would like to hear everyone's thoughts based on the seller's photos... of course I will be posting the actual ring when I get it in a couple days. EXCITED!!!!

so the stats are below and also attached as an image:

center stone is 0.7 ct (5.7 mm), VS1, J

32 pave stones with no specs...

I won the item at $787... deal?

Only problem I foresee its that it has an arthritic shank and can't be resized. It's a 9 and I'm a 5.75... but I just couldn't NOT buy it! ;)

What do yall think??

Thanks!!

Seems like a good price for the piece if it is as described! But you can't tell much about its color or cut from the picture because it is really photoshopped! I always assume that OECs are L-M color on ebay until proven otherwise, and judge price accordingly. When you get it, take it into lots of different lighting and look to see if it shows nice light play accross its whole face, and look to see if the center goes dark. Can't wait to hear what you think in person!

I had that on my watch list forever! I really liked the faceting on the stone.

It looks beautiful. I can't wait to see pictures when you get it. Definitely take it to a jeweler to make sure it really is a diamond ring. I have gotten several lovely pieces from ebay.

Beautiful buy! Like dreamer said- you wont know color and clarity until you see it in person. I really love the setting!

Thanks everyone for your input and encouragement!

I woke up this morning with a sense of dread and anxiety about the ring (787 dollars on my income isn't throw away money!), but reading everyone's enthusiasm about it certainly helps. :)

On another note, I just have another questions... since the seller advised that the arthritic shank will not allow me to resize it, is there a way around it other than a ring guard? They're just so unseemly and I think it will still look obviously too big on my finger (3 sizes is a huge difference!). Is it possible to just cut and solder the ring even though it would render the shank useless? I don't care so much about the shank anyways...

Anywhoo, sorry to keep babbling. I'll update with images shortly, but please keep the feedback 'comin!

Charmypoo: that's too funny! I happened up on it the night it was ending, so I will consider myself lucky :D

Dreamer D: What do you mean by the center going dark? Like when I look at it straight on? Thanks!

Oooh! I love me an OEC. I think you can find some really good deals on ebay if you're patient and know what to look for. I hope you love it in person! Do you mind sharing the seller? I have been lusting after another OEC for a while. Thanks! Congrats on your purchase!

:D Of course I can. The seller is "jewelryarizona". I don't think they sell these types of estate/diamond rings frequently... In any case, here is their eBay description:

Welcome to Estate & Jewelry Liquidators of Arizona! We purchase name-brand overstock and closeout merchandise from the Nation's largest retailers and offer it for well-below wholesale pricing. As one of eBay's largest jewelry sellers, you can buy from us with complete confidence. Happy Browsing!

In update-land: I just got my ship ticket. Looks like FedEx till try to deliver it to my home and no one but my cats will be there to sign for it. :( Another day...

Thank you for sharing that! I hope the ring gets to you soon!

Gorgeous ring and for the price it's a great buy - just factor in the gold weight and diamonds and you can see you've got yourself a brilliant deal. However, re-sizing will be an issue. Sizing from a 9 to below a 6 is problematic for most rings but then if you have pave on the shoulders it's a real problem. Think of it this way, if you cut a bit out of the back and then bend the sides inwards (crude description of what would happen), the stress on the metal causes the prongs of the diamonds to widen and the diamonds on the shoulders to be de-stabilised. What you would need to do is go to a jeweller who's work you know is thorough and of high quality. They may either have to make you a new shank reutilising the gold (if they can) and the diamonds (which they will be able to) OR make sure they re-tip all the prongs holding in the diamonds on the shank.

Typically resizing this far isn't successful which is why you must only go to a jeweller who will do a complete job. Some jewellers will just take the work but then you're left with diamonds falling out all the time and having to replace them. This really is a risk. It may mean you need to spend more dollars on making it secure BUT it's worth it so you can wear the ring safely and will be a good investment up front.

Rest assured it's a lovely ring and I hope the centre diamond lives up to expectations. Please let us know when you get it won't you and what you think?

it's here and it's beautiful!

only thing is... it doesn't pass the fog test!! and it isn't as fiery as I hoped... but maybe I can test it when there is better sunlight.
anyway I can use it as a thumb ring got now as it's way too big, but I fully expected that. Hehheh.

any other tests I can do while it's the holidays?

also more pics in a sec...

just got back from two local jewelers... both said they could resize it but at different price points. one guy said he can do it for $60 but at the risk of the side stones falling out. the other guy said he can do it for $120 but he would make sure it was perfect. ack!!

also, the first jeweler looked at the stone under the loupe and he said it looked real and the second jeweler said it was real without even having to inspect it. I know neither were genuine authentications, but I feel good none the less. :)

that said, after getting over my initial reservations I LOVE THIS RING!! it's gorgeous and really comes alive under lighting conditions that after not my house! haha. maybe I should think about getting different lighting!!

beautiful find, congrats :appl:
