They have several nice "octogonal round" stones at Gemrite. What sort of settings do I need to look for that handle this sort of stone well?

Any round six prong setting would do for an octoganal stone.

TL - I am having trouble visualizing where the 6 prongs would hold the 8 sided stone. Wouldn''t they be rather unevenly spaced: 2 sides would have no prongs, 2 prongs would be in the middle of the sides and the other 4 would be on varying positions along the side.

Wouldn''t a 4 prong be as secure but more nicely spaced (4 sides without prongs, 4 with prongs sitting nicely in the middle)?

Thanks for the replies.

From the linked thread over to precision gems, the one''s he has seem to be more "cushionesk". The stone I was looking at is here:

http://www.gemrite.com/cubecart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=184.

However, I do think it would look fine on a round setting. I do prefere the "basket" over the "peghead" however.

CMW - I got tired of aching after your spinel

, so I got one of my own: neon pink Mahenge silky spinel, cut by Dan Stair.

It is sitting in customs right now and I am going insane waiting!
