THEY''RE HERE! THEY''RE HERE!

OCTAVIA

There''s only two for now but they''re here! I live about 30 minutes away from these beauties and for sure will be taking a trip to visit them soon!

Oh Oh Oh! Do me a favor.
Give us a report.

I'm strongly considering an Octavia but I want to see one in person.
I'm just tossing this all around in my head so nothing is for sure, and who knows when or if GOG will ever get a few Octavias in the 3-C range I would pick from.

I have a super asscher that would be hard to give up.
All 4 Cs are way up there, and I thought I had taken my marriage vows.
It was marital bliss until those seductive Octavias sashayed across my monitor. (Okay - call me Tiger.)

If I got an Octavia I'm not sure whether I’d prefer it to my asscher in person.
Seeing a diamond in pics is very different from seeing it live, especially with asschers.

That hall of mirror, 10-mile deep effect is a motion and stereo-vision thing.
It cannot be captured in a pic or even in video
You'd really need a 3D camera and glasses.

The Octavia pattern reminds me of a budding flower.
I think the reason I react to it so viscerally is it calls to mind the mathematical perfection of the fractal images we often see repeated in nature. (Scroll down in that link and see the pineapple.)

One concern I have is since the corners/windmills are wider that makes the sides shorter so I suspect the Octavia will not have the large bars of color that my asscher has.
I ain't gettin no younger and those larger bars of light are nice when not wearing my glasses.
Of course neither cut is better; they just have different personalities.

So Asscherhalo_lover, when you see them hold one next to a similar-weight well-cut asscher with GOG's lifetime guarantee.
Which looks larger?
As you rock them back and forth describe how their hall of mirrors effects differ.
For the same weight please confirm my suspicion that the Octavia will have smaller bars of color.

I''ll do my best to be objective! I might just get carried away by the beauty though...I''ll see!

Actually, it looks like there is only 1!

Kenny can you get jon to send you one to see in person?

Thanks, I was considering "buying" one just to see it then returning it but that seems unethical if I have no intention of keeping one with those 3 Cs.

Plus, while I had it a real customer in a hurry may miss their chance at it and GOG would loose a sale - especially during this gift-giving season.

BTW I still see both.
Which one is gone when you look?

You must have a cached version of the site.

I can only see the .91 H VVS2.

Yes, how strange.
I'm on Safari; I even quit it and launched it anew and still see both.
I even launched Firefox and still see both.

Hmm.
Odd.

I wonder if Miraclesrule bought the 1.07.

Well, I''m tempted to buy it now just so I can get you to drive south!

I have been debating it very seriously, but I really want to see the stone in person before I make a choice. I will wait back until we have another objective PS''er report back. Oh, I may take a leap of faith. I''d want the setting already decided so I can have that done immediately afterward. I''m just so busy at work right now, I am lucky to get out of there in time to see my precious granddaughter for an hour or so before I have to get to sleep and do it all over again.

Congrats Storm and Diagem and Jon!!!

I see both stones, I just wish they weren't starset positioned. I would love to see them full frontal...ahem

I don''t like when they photograph them standing on a corner either.
You get used to judging them in the usual orientation.

They are so gorgeous - I want one!

Karl, this pic just kills me.

Is it a pic taken with a camera or is it software-generated?
Either way, can you say more about how it was arrived at?

Interesting...

I just viewed the page for the first time, and while the search results says there are 2 all I see is the 1.07.

Edit: If I go to GOG and perform my own search both do appear. It must be an issue with the link above?

DC generated it is aprox 2000 white light sources.
I use it to judge the effective virtual facet size in direct lighting.
They are mostly med. which is one reason I changed the corners to bring some longer wider flashes into play near face up.
With the original they are there when it is tilted.

To be honest static that pic is just a pretty picture.

so, when can we see the videos?

Hey Karl, without blowing my mind too much with the details, can you tell me something... you design the facet pattern using software, but presumably the facet pattern needs to be augented somewhat for each piece of rough. Does the cutter therefore tweak the design a tad for each diamond when planning the particular cut?

Thanks, Asscherhalo_lover!

There is a range of angles that work and the rough is found that works with that.
Some facet sets have a wider range that will work than others.
It is a very demanding cut to cut and pushes current technology to the extreme as well as the skills of the cutters.
There is near zero leeway in the p3s to get the angles right and get the meet points right for a good symmetry grade.
1/3 second to long on the wheel and that p3 is blown which means re-cutting all of the p3 facets.
Each of these diamonds is truly a work of art.

So I saw them today!!!!!

I must say, these are the brightest stones I have ever seen! I spent most of time with the smaller stone by the store''s window.

My honest reaction? Wow...just...wow! All you see in blinding sparkle and fire! The have that incredible sparkle of a round brilliants but with chunkier facets and fire! The shape of them is fantastic, I love the more octagonal shape of these compared to most asschers.

One thing I will say though, when you look up close, you see the resemblance to an asscher, meaning the steps. But when you look at arms length, all you see is sparkle and I didn''t really see any steps. They really don''t remind of asschers, a totally different feel to them. I think in larger sizes they might look more like asschers just as the facet pattern on an asscher is more apparent in larger sizes.

One of the things that really blew me away was the profile shot, you really get the full impact of the depth, the height of the crown, and the amazingly teeny tiny table on these bad girls.

These are truly amazing and unique stones, I have never seen anything remotely like them before and they offer a very special look. These are diamonds that without a doubt you will notice from across a room, maybe even across a stadium, lol. Anyone who lives remotely close to these, it''s worth the trip to visit them. I know that one day I will have to have one just because of how special they are.

Mmmm. I hope GOG hands these out with every Octavia.

You lucky thing, they sound delicious

Do you by any chance have any pictures from your visit?
