My first NY Jewelry and Watch Show on Saturday was both exhilarating and exhausting. My goal was to see as many 5+ carat old cuts of varying colors as I could. Mission accomplished.

(disclaimer: I only had a few hours to cover the whole show, so pic quality is not that great)

Here's a play by play...

7:30am DH & I dropped off our youngest off with my sister and left the greater Boston area.

12:45pm arrived at the show. Made a beeline for Vivid Diamonds (they were close to the entrance.) Saw this beautiful 6.79 ct J/S1I antique cushion cut.

Walked around for a short bit, met Jocelyn from Gilded Lane and-bonus-a few lovely PSers. Got overwhelmed by the sheer amount of bling-left for a quick deli lunch. Pro-tip: Eat BEFORE you enter the show:geek2:

2pm Back at it. Got distracted by these five stone Ruby rings at Jardin Jewels. The graduated one is a true antique with unheated rubies.

Next Stop: Jewels by Grace. Grace was really nice and she had the biggest selection of big old cuts.

I specifically wanted to see Grace’s 5.85 ct K/ VS2 OMC. She’s absolutely gorgeous irl.

I was surprised as how pretty this 6.01 ct UV OMC was.

My booth favorite was actually this 5.17 ct QR OMC. This photo really doesn’t do it justice. The video I have is much better.

I left Grace’s booth with a new appreciation of warmer colored old cuts. She really has a great eye for old cuts. The stones I saw were definite performers.

That's great that you enjoyed it!

Ari is very nice. He is my favorite for bargains, like I mentioned. He'll let me sift through random trays of stuff!

I didn't even think to ask him if he may have a larger stone at some point, when I'm ready, so it's a good reminder to myself.

2:58pm found a mother lode of diamond five stone rings at Melidam. Here’s a pic of a 2 tcw and a 2.5 tcw. For those shopping for five stone rings, note that some are more comfortable than others… E315782F-5460-4E36-A82F-0E57557CAB83.jpeg

IMO, this 8.91 ct ring at Steve Fishman was the showstopper.

Thanks for the pointers! @elizat Ari was very nice. I wanted to shift through his trays, but I ran out of time.

@missy I would love that! To be honest, it was a little overwhelming the first time. Next year, I will be more mentally prepared:lol:

We need more pictures!

Are you sure? People are probably sick of seeing my fingers by now...

Also that’s really cool that you got to meet other people from PS as well as Jocelyn. It would be like a celebrity sighting in PS world.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it went down. I was like "I have strange question-are you...?" The response was ( slightly aghast), "How do you know that?" I replied, "From your bling..." :lol-2::lol-2:

omg for some weird reason when I first looked at this it stopped at the ruby bands. Haha. I thought it seemed cut off...

ETA you DO need to post the Jack Weir one though. That one had the best facet pattern IMHO. It reminded me of @Tourmaline 's stone.

I was there too! I sampled:

This unbelievable ruby from DeYoung, which was one of the most expensive items I saw there
9AB40703-7761-4E4D-A0FA-D48F95E163F0.jpeg
797D7FB8-B280-478C-8911-87EA0887E84F.jpeg

A perfect topaz from Jewels by Grace
335082BF-D5D5-4EC8-850D-EE8801CC2688.jpeg

And also snapped a pic of her amazing line of huge old cuts

5BCD7455-3E2C-4AEF-8EB9-E02EE7BAAEC3.jpeg

I'm glad I went, but I hope that in future years, everyone won't be behind glass; it really makes it impossible to see and sort through many of the smaller pieces, and that's what most people are buying.

Ok, fast forward to 3:28pm. Love these two rings from DK Bressler. I mean look at the antique pears!
D70189D0-8CAF-413C-8854-384E2CCEE8A3.jpeg

This 6.65 ct uncerted stone at Rewa Jewels is a chameleon. And I love, love the size. Unfortunately, the table is super flat and DH thinks it's too warm.

B6ADE410-6CE5-48FB-B175-EE4CF247772C.jpeg

I’ll end on this 6.31 ct N/ VS beauty from Jack Weir. I actually love the make of this stone. Interestingly, GIA categorized it as a circular brilliant. Maybe bc the table size is 55%? Regardless, she’s a performer irl.

Yay! Thanks for sharing your pics! Btw, I love your wedding band and have previously shared an image of it with my friend who is getting engaged:)

No specific piece…I missed the antiques show last time it was held in our neck of the woods. So would love to see what caught your eye at the show.

One last pic of this magnificent VCA set before I wrap it up…
74D001E8-514F-40E7-BF98-5DE7AFD2294D.jpeg

TAKEAWAYS: While I have been focused on OECs, my favorite two stones from the show are actually the OMC from Grace and transitional (?) from Jack Weir. Going to the show reinforced my love for Josie. However, if I ever want a straight up solitaire, I would have to go up ~1.8 mm in diameter. For budget, I would mostly likely have to go down in color. But DH doesn't want to go below an N color.

@maita13 Here's a link to some vids. I zoomed in so some of the crops are a little funny...I really wish I had taken a vid of the 8.91 ct!
