Thank you everyone for your advice and patience. I really appreciate it since I'm in now way an expert in jewelry design. After mulling over everyone's comments on the last set of CADs and thinking about what I wanted, I came to two conclusions. First, maybe I'm not explaining my idea well enough. Second, maybe this really isn't BGD's style and I should look elsewhere. I decided to give it another shot so I spent some time drawing on the previous CADs in Paint and writing more detailed explanations of the changes I'd like to see. I also reexplained the overall feel I wanted in the design and asked if maybe that wasn't the style of BGD (which I felt was kind of awkward to ask but I've been pretty nice through the whole process even when it got frustrating. It must be the "Minnesota nice" kicking in).

Anyway, they asked me to call in one night and I talked to Avi. I was expecting the conversation to be about the style vs what BGD can do, but instead he wanted to go over the changes I wanted to make. Avi was fantastic! We talked about each of the changes I made to the CADs and he assured me that they would get it right this time. After that, I felt much more comfortable continuing the project, which turned out to be a good thing.

Now I finally have the new CADs and it's a huge relief. I really like where they are going now and I think it looks much more natural. The biggest change is the shape of the leaves. The new shape and design on the surface make them look much more realistic. I really think this new leaf design makes the ring look much less chunky and modern. I think the ring might have been smoothed out a little but it's a little hard to tell. The only issue I can see right now is the prongs. Avi said that they can't fit 4 prongs because of the design but the diamond will still be safe with 3 prongs. It looks to me that the side with 2 prongs doesn't get close to the center of the band so it should be able to be duplicated on the other side. I would be okay with 3 prongs except the leaf on the side with 1 prong looks a little strange still. I'll ask them about this and try to get more concrete information about why 4 prongs won't work.

Do any of you see any other issues? Thank you again for your input!

Are YOU happy? That's the most important question, and it sounds like the answer is 'yes'. Good for BGD for doing everything they can for you!! :appl:

I'd keep the three prongs - fits better with the overall asymmetry, IMO.

I like the 3 prongs. The design is so whimsical and unique! Love it.

Yeah I'm much happier with these than I was with the other two. The other CADs were much chunkier and more modern than I know she'd want. Personally, I like modern stuff but my girlfriend likes things with "more character" as she puts it. I attached the previous CADs for quick reference. The first picture is the first set of CADs and the second picture is the second round.

That's definitely what I was going for. I'm so glad it actually looks like that now!

I'd leave it the way it is, just because I think a 4th prong would make it look more bulky. If this is exactly what you wanted, then go for it. I would however suggest getting insurance on this thing the second you get it!!!

Whimsical is the perfect word. Very Anthropologie. I like it.

Yeah, I wouldn't go with a 4 prong. CADs always appear much more bulky than the final piece so I imagine that it will appear much more delicate when finished. What are thinking for a wedding band?

Thanks! I hadn't thought of whimsical before when explaining my idea but that's a perfect word!

I think I've heard her talk about that store before. She seemed to really like it but was sad because it was too expensive. They're all over the DC area.

I'm not entirely sure what to do about a wedding band yet. I'm thinking that a spacer will pretty much be required. Maybe she can work with BGD to come up with something - I'm sure she'd love that. A custom spacer could that is made to be flush with one edge could work too. Maybe it could be another vine. She also really likes sapphires but I have no idea how you'd add that in. It would probably look too busy anyway. I haven't put much thought into it yet. I'm sure it won't be very typical but she'll like that - it's the whole reason I went custom in the first place.

I don't know how I missed your first and second CAD's but I absolutely love your 3rd set. Well done! :appl:

ooooh!!! now *this* is where I had hoped the original two were headed!! I really like where you are at now - it is far more refined and feminine. It has that flow, going on, and it is still delicate and floral, not clunky and 'in your face/wannabe' like previously.

I would stay with 3 prongs - much more ethereal than 4. For a WB, if you have no design plans, could there be a leaf that comes from the wb and 'hooks' into the ering in some way? maybe that leave has a very tiny melee diamond on it??

Wow, a huge improvement from CADs versions 1 and 2. More delicate, better detail and a softer, flow-ier and realistic organic looking ring. I'd stick with 3 prongs as well. It goes better with the design.

I was just thinking about you the other day. I was about to post on your old post. It looks a ton better.
:appl:
I would not get a matching band. The whole point is that its organic and random. A nice matching one that looks a little like a stick would be just great. It looks random but cohesive

Sorru this will be really short- I'm on my phone because the internet at our apartment is pracitcally useless for now.

Thanks for all your comments! Before I give it final approval,I was just wondering if anyone sees any structural problems. I juat want to make sire its good before they start making it and changes become really expensive. Thanks!

The only potential problem that I see is the three prong design being more of a risk than usual. If she checks them often and is careful they likely won't be an issue.

Because of the design, however, I would simply raise the leaves that cup the stone anyway and turn them into half bezels to hold the center stone.

Almost like this:

I'm not a fan of the 3 prongs so I +1 for this idea. I"m hard on my rings and have broken off prongs before. If you break 1 prong on this setting your diamond is sayonara if you know what I mean. I personally like the half bezels and I think theyw ould flow really well with this ring. Just my .02 cents.

Woohoo! It's finally done!!

After thinking about it for too long, I approved the CADs as they were. I really don't like bezels for rings so I stuck with the 3 prongs. If you couldn't already tell, I'm pretty indecisive at times. I think I was analyzing things too much and no one pointed out any glaring problems that I missed so I had to suck it up and make my final decision. Anyway, I got an email saying that the ring shipped today and I can go pick it up tomorrow or Wednesday! I'm so excited that it's done and I can't wait to give it to my girlfriend. Unfortunately, I'm waiting for nice weather so it might be a while...

Here are the glamor shots they sent as well. I'll be sure to post my own pictures once I get it.

Oh they did a really nice job on the leaves. She is going to absolutely love it!! Congratulations!!!

Yah!! :appl: I can't wait to see hand shots! You must be so very excited!! It looks beautiful, congratulations!!

It is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

Oh, really pretty! Cant wait to see some finger shots!

Alright, here are some of the pictures that I took myself. Sorry, about the delay - this week was super busy and it's also been cloudy so the lighting hasn't been great for taking pictures. My camera was being a pain and taking really dark pictures (probably because the sun was behind some light clouds) but it turns out my phone camera has a macro setting as well. Anyway, enjoy!

The diamond itself looks fantastic! We have track lighting in the kitchen and the lights from multiple angles make it sparkle like crazy! Too bad that's difficult to capture in a picture. I'm definitely happy that I went with the best cut possible. The band looks really good too. It's a lot smaller than the CADs/glamor shots make it seem so it looks a lot more delicate. The details on the leaves and the band are really well done. I'm really happy with the way everything turned out even though it was a long, difficult process. I can't wait to give it to my girlfriend, I'm sure she'll love it!

So pretty! :appl:

When do you plan to propose?

Oh it is BEAUTIFUL!!! So unique and delicate!! I love the detail on the leaves and the 3 prongs was DEFINITELY a good choice!!! Very exciting! Good luck with your proposal!

just beautiful!!! get that ring on that lucky ladies finger!!!

Thank you everyone! Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this!! The more I learned about everything that goes into diamond purchases and engagement rings, the harder it got to make a decision. I really appreciate all of your help! :D

Like I said, I can't wait to give this to my girlfriend but, unfortunately, the proposal probably won't be until June. I had planned on proposing in August, September, or October but I couldn't find anything non-custom that I liked so that process pushed everything into the winter. I want to do something outside so I need to wait until it warms up a bit. The two of us are pretty busy with school and everything in April and May (plus graduation for her in May) and one of the activities I have planned won't be available again until June.

i'm really happy that it turned out as your dreamed it would. best of luck with the proposal.

its beautiful. very whimsical and i love the natural flow of the ring. the thicker vine at the base that thins out towards the top. the whole piece just flows. i wasn't so sure it would out any good after the initial cads but the end result is lovely

good luck with your proposal!!
