Thanks all for the help and suggestions with the stone.

here's the link to the original inspiration ( albeit with an cushion centre):

http://www.greenwichjewelers.com/shop/designers/beverley-k/products/beverley-k-diamond-engagement-ring-with-halo-and-engraving

Now obviously it can't be exactly the same, and seeing as its being designed from the ground up, a level of uniqueness is good.

Now, here is the first round of CAD's:

tm4.jpgtm1.jpg

Version 2.0 coming tomorrow, but we've already spoken about raising the stone but a touch, making the shank a touch smaller and adding tilt to the halo. Keeping in mind it will be getting engraving on the side.

I've also mentioned that I'm not so sure about the leaves on the gallery, and that it may be a little too busy with the engraving, leaves, millstone etc.

Thoughts?

There needs to be a certain depth on the shank for the engraving, but the CAD's seem really angular, is this a CAD thing?

Thats a very nice contender as well. Number are fantastic.

Thoughts:
Ask Blue Nile if the stone is overblue/hazy at all from fluorescence. If answer is no, that's great.
Ask Blue Nile how thin that girdle is.
Ask Blue Nile if it is eyeclean.

See if they will get you a pic of it, if all of the above is clear to proceed.

How are you planning on setting it?

Sorry Gypsy, I think you've replied in he wrong thread perhaps?
This is a Mark T and BE setting

I am not crazy about the leaves. What style of engraving are you having done? Is there another motif you could pull for the gallery?

Also, it looks like you won't be able to have a flush fit band if you are wanting that.

I personally think that the leaves a bit too much for all the design elements you have in mind.. Maybe something simpler if you definitely want some kind of design in the gallery? Or just keep it simple and leave it open?

The angular-ness of the shank is a function of the shape I think. When I did mine I specifically asked Mark to make the shank rounded so you don't see the 90-degree edge anywhere. But that's a personal preference I guess - and to be honest I'm not sure how rounded you can make it given the pave.

Do you have the updated CAD yet?

Someone recently had a ring from them done with a similar leaf motif. It was lovely, but I agree it may not go with your design. I'd do a tiffany legacy profile, either with or without diamonds on the struts. If it was me and I needed to keep the cost down, I'd leave the struts plain and have the bezel stone where the struts meet the shank.

Or if you want a floral motif, see how ERD made a similar ring here.

yes, V2 is slightly raised, and the band is now uniform w x d at 1.7mm, so it will be quite fine, the inside edges I'm pretty sure will be rounded a touch for comfort, but the outside edges I don't think can with that style pave.
No longer doing the engravings on the side.

Here's a link to another ERD setting with nothing in the gallery, but a similar halo to mine:

I think i'l get a CAD done up with something like this in the gallery:

A little more subtle.

This will also allow a flush sitting wedding band.

Really like the petals in that link.
However, would the petals with pave and millgrain look a little strange next to the plain sides of the shank? (one without engraving)

Well it's back to the drawing board I think.
Told the GF I wqs bored and had been researching rings. Showed her something similar to what I was planning, or something with a more modern look like this:

http://www.diamondexchange.com.au/store/engagement-rings/dex229.html?RingMetalType=PL

So no bezel in the halo, no millgrain. Different style pave
She mentioned that whilst she Thought the other was stunning, she would chose this more modern stlyle if given the choice.

IM a bit disappointed as I think that the first would be more unique, and could be personalised more, but it's not about what I want.

Reccomedations??

I'm sure you can request a different shank width with either model, and in my mind there are two main differences between the two (and they are somewhat related):

1. whether the shank is "cathedral" (Emily) or not (Ada)
2. whether there is a donut that connects the shank (Ada) or a completely flush fit (Emily)

I'm not sure whether your gf has a preference either way.

Obviously you've gone in another direction, I was just going to say, though Tue inspiration had millgraining and pave, you could use elements of the design without millgrain or having pave in it.
