Just wondering if anyone has gotten a new piece of diamond jewelry and then felt like they needed to upgrade clothes, and other things in their life, to match. I recently received my dream upgrade ring that I''ve wanted forever but now it just doesn''t seem to go with the casual lifestyle I have. I feel like I need to buy a whole new wardrobe to make it look up to par with the beautiful ring I now own. Of course, I can''t afford a whole new wardrobe!

Am I just being silly? Has anyone else felt this way? Did you act on it?

Great idea! Get some great new clothes to go with that pretty ring. I pick out clothes to wear based on what jewelry I want to wear. I know many in PSland understand the way we think.

Yep, I have.

I''ve just started aquiring some really nice diamond jewlery and don''t feel like my clothing is up to par. I''m spending the money I used to spend on clothing on sparkly things. I''m sure I will go back to buying nice clothes, bags and shoes after a have a substantail little collection....for a while atleast

Definitely. I don''t have a diamond yet (I''m a colored stone freak) but every time I go through a life change, I upgrade my wardrobe. And like Marcyc I choose my clothes according to the jewelry I wear.

Oh yes. I feel like such a schlub dressed in old jeans and a sweater when I''m wearing my e-ring. Thing is, I''d rather save up my money for more diamonds than spend it on nicer clothes.

I try to go for the classic look clothingwise. I''m not one for what''s "in right now". I think my wardrobe has some staple pieces that I can wear at any time and this helps with keeping my clothes and bling up to par with each other. Also, I''m into accessories like shoes and purses and this definitely helps with whatever outfit I choose to wear with my e-ring.

Everytime I bought a ring, Mom would say..." Watchu buying another ring for? To match your clothes from the eighties and nineties?

and your 30K Quilting machine?"

I am with Luckyeshe, I sort of pick a more classic style and stick with it - I abhor the idea of appearing like a cougar - wearing clothes that are waaaay too young for me.

What I have done however is have my nails done every three weeks - not something that I did in my twenties and thirties (or forties - who am I kidding!). I love the look of the French Manicure and it goes so well with my rings! Who ever invented gels deserves a medal!

No need to change waldrobe or lifestyle. I can wear my bling with a plain shirt and jeans. The way I see it, an engagement ring or a wedding ring is good for all occasions. Never look under-dressed or over-dressed.

Hehe, I have no problem wearing 10k worth of jewelery and 10$ jeans. I love shopping at Plato''s closet and places like that because the jeans are already broken it! I get some weird looks, they probably think my ring is fake, but I don''t really care, it''s just so much easier to jean shop this way.

Heh. I too am totally fine with wearing my 3.5ct e-ring with my Target and/or goodwill clothes. I tend to dress pretty Goth, look pretty young for my age (32) and so most people thus assume my ring is fake I think. Nothingquite like the combo of a beautiful antique ring and an Emily the Strange T-shirt and a studded leather collar!

I do tend to do my nails when I get new jewelry, though.

If you *want* to get a few new pieces go for it, but you''ll probably feel like the ring''s a part of your hand soon enough and will stop feeling self concious or mismatched or whatever. Don''t feel *obligated* to dress up to match the ring, I guess is what I''m trying to say. Diamonds go fine with flip flops!

I do understand what you mean. But I''m a very casual person and I wouldn''t change my casual/classic look for my jewelry.

Sure I haven''t bought any new clothes in a while...but I have bought some new sparkly stones. And the stones will way way outlast the clothing.

No designer duds for me. Diamonds and flip flops go great together!!!

I sort of know what you mean. I used to wear my expensive jeweler for special occasions...but now I pretty much wear it all the time. My husband laughs at me for going to the gym in my diamond solitare necklace all the time. And when I''m not working- I LIVE in my jeans. So yes, i know the feeling but it gets old after a while. Besides i would rather have better jewerly then clothes! I keep telling my husband who should be proud that I''m making smart investment choices!

What money will I use to buy new clothes my dear? All my money goes towards jewelry.

And yoga classes.

Yup.

That''s one of the reasons I stuck with a solitaire - I felt like it was more versatile when it comes to matching the wardrobe. I still sometimes just run with a plain band when I''m dresses reeeeaaally casual!

Nope, I still dress the same. The only expensive clothes I wear are designer jeans (I have about 10 pairs). . .since I''m a SAHM, those basically incompass my entire upgraded version of necessary staple. I will wear diamond studs, pendant, a t-shirt, with a pair of Joes and flip flops. Guess it''s partically where I live as everyone is laid back.

I would say that I went the opposite direction - started dressing better (older and more professional looking) and then decided to bling it up, thanks to PS. But I also have no problem wearing bling with galoshes and a t-shirt.

If you want to start dressing up, I agree with other posters that the best way is by buying some classic, foundational pieces to go with the bling - a really nice evening jacket, some all purpose sleek but sexy boots, a suit plus skirt, and some nice shirts to layer.

You can also just buy some nice accessories like a scarf and purse to match the bling.

oh man, this thread cracks me up :)

I could never match my clothing to match my ering I am afraid. all of the clothing money I would spend in my lifetime is in my ering lol. I wear what is comfortable, I don''t really care what others think quite frankly. I wear a lot of things from Target lol. I am just a hippie. I wear a lot of bright colors and loose fitting stuff. Mostly with floral prints! I looooove flowers!!

Never felt that.

Love my ring so much and it makes whatever I wear look good.

But....

A few months ago I bought the most amazing pair of boots and I''m now planning a ring to match !!!!
