Does anyone have a ring/diamond they are not happy with? If so, what are your options? Thanks.

I''m not unhappy exactly...but I definitely want to change my e-ring. We saved our money for the wedding when we bought my ring and didn''t spend that much on it. I knew I would eventually want something bigger, so I purchased with someone with an upgrade policy. My best option is to trade up with them. I will lose the inflation value of the stone, but I will retain 100% of the original retail price. I will also lose quite a bit in the setting because I probably won''t get much for it if I sell it.

I was unhappy with the setting on my original e-ring. It has small diamonds in the band that kept coming loose and was not much fun to wear. I changed the setting, first to something very inexpensive (sort of a temporary thing) while looking around and about a year after that changed to the vatche x prong setting that I have now. I am much happier with it!

What is your situation? Some people have cosigned with signed pieces or pearlmans... it just depends what you have and why you are not happy! If you like the main stone I would highly recommend a setting change - sort of a makeover for your jewelry!

yea, more about your situation would be great. How much you are already invested in it, why you are unhappy, where you bought it, etc.

Well, I was unhappy with my 1.92 asscher (square emerald cut) diamond, which was in a plain platinum mounting. Options?

Well, first I changed the setting to antique. Then I changed it back to a plain, cathedral platinum mounting. Then I placed it into a halo (diamonds all around). Then I put it back into a plain mounting (this time, it sat low). Next, I had a new mounting with step-cut traps diamonds so it looked like a 3-stone...THEN WITHOUT MUCH HESITATION I DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO CHANGE THE.....

So, now I am happy with my Tiffany & Co emerald cut diamond (it is better color, with a larger appearance, despite being a 1.5).....

Thats a fascinating story. Were you sick of the asscher or was the ec so much better looking that you enjoyed it more due to it being even more attractive. Was the asscher not beautiful in its own right...or did the T. setting and experience put it over the edge?

I must say, you gave the asscher many chances to win you over!!!!

Sharon101- I think it was a combination that I started to notice the color (I), shrinkage set in a bit, and then after each setting I became frustrated...so when the opportunity to get my current ring came, we jumped at it (it was a steal, I might add!). I have not looked back.

If you dont mind me asking.....did you analyse the cuts and do all the number crunching with the angles etc. or did you just go by your eyes?

Did the asscher look like it had more color due to the cut being not so great....and is the T. one more beautiful because of the better color or cut?

The reason Im asking is that you made the decision sound so easy, where as most people analyse the numbers to death!!!

Also, most people seem to second guess T. range of diamonds as not being as good as they could be for the price. So did you sort of do the price scope thing.....or did you just say, this one is nicer than my old, and I think that is all that I want for a reasonable price. ie improvement not perfection???

I knew a fair amount before I got the Asscher, and was on PS before hand. I looked at the GIA of the asscher before we bought it (it was a good cut, most would consider it a great "asscher" aside from the color), and I liked the look of it. I analyzed it to a degree...

My main problem with my first diamond/ring came after the diamond was taken into certain lights, and diamond shrinkage set in(which cannot be determined with scrutinizing the certifications)....

My Tiffany & Co Diamond has fairly good numbers, and the cut is also very good. Perhaps Tiffany & Co diamonds are sometimes thought of (on PS in particular)"as not being as good as they could be for the price". Some say that therefore it is not worth the full-price. That could be true (I did not buy mine for full-price), but after having mine for a while and growing so attached to it, I would have bought it for the full-price if that was my only option of owning it.

The GIA cert on the T& Co ring (after review)indicated that it was a "very good" cut diamond, it had excellent color (E) and similar clarity to my asscher (vs1). When I saw it in person I knew I loved everything about. It "looked great". Was it perfect? Probably not.

The decision was not difficult for me...You were right in that I thought of it as improvement and while it may not be perfection, it is perfect enough for me

Numbers can only tell someone so much...

Thank you for the explaination. Its great to hear the thought process behind the deal!!

I hope you continue to enjoy your upgrade!!!

Its amazing that a smaller carat stone fulfilled your shrinkage problem, obviously spead is very important.

Any photos of your old and new rings????

Story of my current ring

One of the original diamond changes
All I can say is WOW...you got out of that one nicely!!!!! Im amazed at how you tied up all the loose ends so neatly and with such a great outcome.

I can see why you didnt like the first one so much...it didnt seem to have much oompf about it, why I dont know???? It just didnt seem pretty or big or sparkly or glassy...it was very inbetweeniswh!!!!!

But, the T. ec.........well, you did good gal friend, real good!!!!

You found and got the bargain of the century, a diamond from heaven, and even managed to flick the old one in the deal. I take my hat of f to you. Talk about killing two birds with one stone....WOW.

And for the record, it does look very classy and pretty. The proportions are all `right`, I think T. have a reputation for good reason.

Sharon101-Thank you for your comments!

I agree, the first stone was nice, but not anything that made me "love" it

I wish it did! My new ring is awsome

and I am happy about the way everything worked out. I was lucky and am proud of my husband-to-be for helping during the whole ordeal....
