Over the past couple months I''''ve been ring shopping with my gf until we found a ring she really liked at The Wedding Ring Shop in Hawaii where we live. My gf has always wanted a flush style ring where the diamond sits in the setting creating a flat look very similar to the Tiffany''''s Legacy ring.

We found a great setting and then I began researching diamonds. I found the diamond I liked and then ordered the ring. My gf asked specifically about how the diamond would sit in the ring and was told it would sit flush, not raised above the setting. At the time of ordering I double checked and even drew a picture for the sales associate to make sure we were all on the same page. I watched her write in her notes "flush". This was a custom order with a no refund policy so I wanted to make sure everything was clear

fast forward 6 weeks and I picked up the ring and the diamond is set way above the setting. absolutely not what I was expecting. I just finished emailing my sales woman with my concern but I''''m not expecting much since I''''ve already paid for the ring and the setting looks to small to "lower" the diamond so it would sit flush. Kind of at a loss of what to do.

Any suggestions? This is basically the first peice of jewelry I''''ve ever bought in my life.. and I don''''t want my gf to end up with a very expensive ring that she doesn''''t very much like.

Please look at attached images and let me know what you think. I was expecting a ring with a flush look similar to the Tiffany''''s Legacy

oh no - I''m sorry the ring is not what you asked for. I would definitely discuss the differences between your expectations and understanding of the what the ring would be, and the final product. Do you have copies of any documentation indicating details of the ring design?

Unfortunantly I don''t have documentation of the specific details which is why I think I''m going to be stuck with it. I just remember the associate writing flush on her notes and then telling me that will be how the diamond sits in the ring. She re-assured me and I bought it. I wish I had been more skeptical from the begining and documented every single detail.

I know that my gf did not want prongs showing and wanted everything flat. When we originally looked at the ring she specifically asked a different sales associate that same question and was told the diamond will sit flush but again we don''t have it in writing...

I''m not aware of any other options for mounting the diamond in this ring... I haven''t heard of bezel mounted before though.

I totally think I''m going to get hosed on this deal though.... kind of like when you buy a used car and having it blow up ten miles down the road and you''re stuck with it.

very bummed today

You might be able to lower it if there is a small gap between the diamond and the setting. I don''t think you''ll be able to get the bezel effect, but hopefully getting it lower will help

It''s beautiful!

I hope the jeweler will help you out...or at least be able to lower it...you should ask to see the order form. If they messed up your order it should fall on their shoulders.

For what its worth its a beautiful ring...

I really think if you have a reputable jeweler you won''t have an issue having it corrected to your satisfaction. I had a ring custom made and when I received it, the center stone wasn''t the height I had thought it would be. They immediately corrected it to my satisfaction without any hesitation. Good luck and I hope you can get it worked out to your and your gf''s satisfaction!

How much have you spent?

Do talk to them in person first thing monday. Tell them this is not what you wanted. Hoepfully they can reach an accommodation. But without pictures or other examples documenting your request I don''t know what recourse you will have!

I wrote a longer post but lost it due to the error (I hate it when that happens).

Anyways, I am having trouble understanding what you want. Is there a sketch or sample you can share with us?

Is your girflriend wanting a bezel setting?

Here is an example of a bezel setting.

here is the ring. see how the diamond is sitting above the setting? The diamond needs to sit flush in the setting. so everything looks seamless, no prongs exposed. it should look similar to this.....

what do you think? can rings typically be modified? The setting looks to small for the diamond to sit flush in...

wow.. you showed them the tiffany ring, said you wanted the diamond flush like that, and they made this? It''s beautiful, but very different, and you really should have no issue getting your money back

They made you a prong set instead of a bezel set!! I just want to add .. even though it is a prong set .. it is a really high PRONG set.

Absolutely make them fix this! They made you a compeletly different ring. I would not accept this. Even if you didn't have flush set in writing, if they were copying the Tiffany Legacy - they got it wrong. Do you have a face-up view of the ring?

I once had a jeweler change a prong set to a bezel set - a round version of the legacy. They did it for $100 and it looked great.

Another question - you said you picked up the ring. So seeing the way the ring is .. you still left the store paying in full?

Did you show them the Legacy as a sample of what you wanted? And ditto Charmy''s questions.

I’m confused. They had a ring in the shop that you looked at and loved. Great! Was it the same ring, or at least the same design as what they delivered? (The Tiffany ring in the photo is a completely different design but you placed your order based on something in the showcase, not on a photograph from Tiffany, right?)

Have you had a response from the store?

The ring was a custom order so it was paid in full at the time of ordering and I should have said something at the time of pickup but I was in a rush to get to work and not quite sure how to approach the subject so I waited until I got home that night and emailed my sales associate. She responded quickly and is currently seeing what kind of resolution may be available.

My gf picked out the exact ring I ordered, the diamond was supposed to sit flush though thats the only discrepancy. I just attached the link to the Tiffany''s Legacy as an example of how the diamond was supposed to sit in the setting and what I meant by flush.

I''ll attach more pictures tonight when I get home. I''m keeping my fingers crossed for a simple solution!
