I am looking to spend a max of $5000.00 for a round solitare at least .75, I color, VS, 18kw thin band, 4 prong Tiffany style. I have gone to the mall and got some qoutes:

this looked this best

Helzberg
0.74 H VS1 Masterpiece
Excellent polish and symmetry
4699.00 befor taxes

But now after looking at this forum and online dealers, It looks like i get get a beter deal with an online purchase.

Anyone have any recomandation for me? OR help finding a complete ring?

I would think you could get a solid 1 carat ring with nearly those specs for 5K.

Hi Kevin!

How much do you want to apportion to the diamond and the setting? We could find you some examples once we know your budget if you would like.

Hi Kevin!

The max for the band would be about 700-1000 and the remaing 4000+ on the diamond. Is that what you ment?

How much would it be to get the stone place on a band? Would any local jewler be able to do that for me?

and of course I color or higher(colorless), and VS or higher.

Local jeweler can set it but most probably he won't covered it if anything happens during the setting to the diamond so you will have to buy additional insurance for the loose stone.

This stone?

In terms of clarity, if eye-clean, an SI1/2 will look no different from other higher clarity grade. Just some info that maybe you would use to broaden the range of you specs.

Yes it is Kevin thank you!

A local jeweller could set the diamond for you certainly but it might be best to get the diamond and setting from the same vendor who can set it. That way should anything happen such as breakage or damage to the diamond ( rare) the company will usually assume responsibility.

With the type of setting you want, most vendors should be able to supply the Tiffany style 4 prong solitaire without difficulty.

Thanks for the quick replys, I like what im starting to see online. I going to keep looking untill i find the right one...if anyone comes across something they think I may like, please post the link!

Thanks in advance

Here is a great diamond, you could get your setting and be within budget. Jon at GOG has access to far more settings than he has on his website so if you can't see what you are looking for just tell him and he will be able to help you.

If you wanted to maximise size you could consider SI1 clarity or even SI2 if verified eyeclean by a trusted vendor.

What do you guys think about this one?

Its a great diamond, not cut quite up to super strict precision and with the optical symmetry, but a great diamond nevertheless. Make sure it is eyeclean by asking Jon.

Looks good if you are not going for a H&A stone.

If so, try searching in JA's database.

For example, this one? Check with JA if eye-clean and ask for an Idealscope image if you are interested.

Im guessing H&A is gonig to be hearats and arrows? This would be top of the line?

Sorry i am a noob
Yes indeed and please don't apologize, we all had to start somewhere! Some h&a branded diamonds are top notch in every way cutwise, the diamond you posted above is near h&a and the optical symmetry isn't to the absolute highest standards, but it is still a great diamond. Some want the creme de la creme for h&a diamonds, others don't mind near h&a and others just want a nicely cut diamond, it depends on the buyer. Also some diamonds which show hearts and arrows might not necessarily be top of the line so it is important to consider the proportions as these are the bricks and mortar of a diamond's performance, h&a patterning can be seen on diamonds which aren't the most effective performers so it is best to evaluate each diamond as a whole carefully.

Is it true color from I-D is hard to see from the naked eye?

Do you mean from D to I? This depends, there is to me a slight difference but it is very subtle. I will post a video you can watch to give you an idea but use it as a guide only as colour perception, tolerances and preferences vary as do computer monitors.

Yes these look great, I think you would need to contact WF concerning the first one. Check these are eyeclean if you want to find out more by asking WF.

Ditto. First one is probably a new stone that WF have yet to upload the information.

Hi, there - just wanted to throw in my experience and detail my cost because it looks like you''re in about the same ballpark as me, cost-wise.

First off, I got a .798ct F color VS2 clarity round brilliant diamond from Blue Nile, price was $3700. It was recommended by one of these great folks on this forum - and it''s absolutely beautiful. It was one of their "signature ideal" cut diamonds. Do some research and keep looking at several diamonds. After looking at the brilliance and fire of the diamond I got, definitely make sure of the angles of the cut, and what certification comes with it. I did and my diamond is just breathtaking.

I had a local jeweler (not a chain jewelry store) show me their settings, and i found one with 8 small round brilliants and milgrain 1/2 way down the band, in white gold, for $912. That price included setting the diamond. You are probably looking at a few hundred dollars for a nice classic 4 prong Tiffany solitaire setting. As others have said, the jeweler can''t guarantee my stone while setting it because I didn''t get it through them, so if you do buy the diamond elsewhere, you will take a risk when getting it set if you don''t buy the diamond through the jeweler. I''ve been told trouble with this is very rare, though.

The setting I ordered is on it''s way from the shop that makes them (wanted 6 prong instead 4 prong), and soon the engagement ring will be set and ready to go. I can''t wait, and these folks here will help all that they can - have a great time shopping and don''t be afraid to ask questions!

Alright after doing my research and from the help of you guys here on PS, I think its time to make my purchase.

I have found a few diamonds that I like, could someone please take a look at them and let me know what you think.

Im thinking the cut is most important factor right now?

I want the best that there is, while getting the best bang for my buck

Number 4 is my pick if eyeclean, you would need to check with JA. There is a grade setting cloud in this diamond, check this isn't causing a loss of brilliance by asking the gemologist at JA to check it.

Thank you Lorelei for your help! I do appreciate it!

As for the diamond you have like out of what I have found, could you critic it for me? Pros and Cons?

Anything else I should be asking when I call Jamesallen?

Any recomendations would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

You are most welcome and yes of course!

This is a very well cut diamond, AGS0 cut grade which is an ICY WHITE E colour

. Excellent Idealscope image, well balanced crown and pavilion angles. Table, depth, girdle, diameter, lower girdle facets are all in great range. My only concern if if the grade setting cloud impacts brilliance, so get Julianna the gemologist to check for you, if not then its a super diamond!

Thank you very much!

As I learn more and more about diamonds my decision gets harder and harder. I was looking at diamonds that were previously suggested to me, and 2 diamonds look to be very comparable. If someone could please rate these diamonds for me maybe 1-3 not looking at the price, but just the quality of the diamond. I am planing to purchase today and this would be a great help.
