Hi everyone,

I've been on my search for a while and have come across this diamond which I'm thinking about going ahead with. Only thing is that BN does not provide an ASET or idealscope for the diamond. If you were in my shoes would you go ahead and purchase this one:

diamond.jpg

Round Brilliant
Colour I
Depth 60.9%
Table 57%
Crown 35 deg
Pavilion 40.8 deg
Star 55%
Lower Half 75%
Girdle 3%

I am a bit nervous to go ahead with this as there's no ASET and I cannot tell whether the Hearts and Arrows would look okay. Wondering what you think? Also correct me if I'm wrong but I think this will be eye clean as it's VS1 and has no fluoro.

Thanks in advance for any comments you might have!

I would definitely want to see more details prior to making a large purchase such as this. As long as the certificate is from GIA or AGS, the VS1 will be a very clean diamond. You will definitely not see anything with the naked eye. Even with a loupe, to an untrained eye, any internal characteristics would be hard to locate. Happy hunting!

The proportions of the stone you have selected are beautiful and almost guarantee a gorgeous diamond!! The 35/40.8 angle combo will produce a nice balance of scintillation (white sparkle) and fire (colorful reflections). I also particularly like the 75LH as those will be some nice chunky arrows that will produce greater amount of contrast and fire. If the price is right, this seems like a fantastic diamond. You can buy your own ASET/IS (they are affordable) and just inspect the diamond once it arrives. VS1 is almost always eye-clean, most VS2 and even many SI1 stones can be eye-clean as well. Fluorescence is a whole other topic and since this diamond does not exhibit it, probably no need to go too far into it. But generally, Faint and Medium flouro rarely have impact on diamond's transparency, strong and very strong flouro may have some impact, which is why we recommend inspecting those stones on case-by-case basis. There are many stones with SF and VSF that are perfectly fine and exhibit no milkiness or haziness due to flouro, so I would not be afraid to look at stones with fluorescence. But back to your diamond, I would not hesitate to purchase this stone. BN also has a good return policy and you can always return it in case you don't love it or find something better. We can also always help you look based on your budget and requirements.

It looks nice in theory and in the photo. Ditto buying an IS to take one at home within the 30-day return. Not sure how easy it is to buy ASET tools. Amazon seems to have everything these days tho, LOL.

There are banner ads at the top and bottom of this forum that rotate round to ASET/IS adverts once in a while :)

Old Miner here sells the ASET and the Ideal-Scope, both of which are made in Australia by Garry Holloway's team. They are great hand held tools. If you are really into it, you can also order a small back lit lighting device to make the images really "pop". The cover even has two holes in it for holding different size diamonds face up to see the arrows.

I am not sure if I am allowed to place David's email here, so if I am wrong in thinking I can I ask the moderator to kindly remove this email address. [email protected]

Looks like a gorgeous stone & completely eye clean. I would commit with a company that has a great return policy which BN does. I'd order the Ideal-Scope/ Aset from David Atlas (allow time for shipping).
I is a great colour & you're getting a high clarity stone. Beautiful.

I have seen several diamonds with those particular dimensions in person (35 crown 40.8 pavilion 57 table, etc.) and they were extremely fiery and scintillating like mad. I wouldn’t be concerned with VS clarity at all. I would hope this diamond is a GIA excellent cut, excellent symmetry. Very good is still okay, too. The symmetry really does impact the way the facets appear. I wouldn’t hesitate purchasing this stone from BN due to a generous return policy.

Thanks all so much for your swift replies! I really appreciate the advice!! It gives me a bit more comfort in selecting this diamond.

I was wondering in relation to girdle-
The GIA report specifies ‘thin, faceted, 3.0%’
I’m a bit confused as I thought 3.0% is in the medium range? Will the ‘thin’ girdle in this case be detrimental to durability of this diamond?

Can you search by GUA number? Maybe another vendor has images of this stone?

Thin, Faceted will be fine. Very Thin would need further inspection and would concern many, including me.
