Should we be looking at paying less than the average AGA price for say a 2A or 2B stone that comes without any certs? If so, what percentage discount would be fair. Diamond vendor has no problem with us getting independant appraisals and any other test we ask for.

I would be uncomfortable buying online with no 'paper'.

If you are buying in a store and trust the vendor then that is another matter, but it would be unfair to expect a full service retailer with 'physical inventory' to $ match a virtual diamond etailer.

So it is your choice to do as you prefer.

Round diamonds that grade below AGA 2A bring less money than better cut ones. Fancy shapes are less reliably priced to begin with. A lot has to do with the brightness and a lot has to do with the shaping and craftmanship of the cutting, but you cannot equate price directly to the AGA Cut Class grade in fancy shapes 3B and better. The AGA Cut Class grades refer to the shaping and cutting craftmanship rating and not directly to the more scientific "light return" portions of cut grading.

Why? Because the industry is slow to change and hopes to hang onto the old way of doing business as long as it can. If few consumers know about cut, the sellers in regulkar stores are happier and can make more money. I don't blame them. We all have our little piece of capitalism. This is just how markets perfect themselves and it is not a death wish for diamonds or profits... It is normal progress.
