Hello all,

I am new (having just signed up) and have been talking with a JamesAllen associate on suggested engagement rings. My SO and I have talked previously and we are interested in:

a) Solitaire white gold (e.g. http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/14k-white-gold-2mm-knife-edge-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-7115 )

b) 0.3 - 0.4 carat sized round diamond.

For the diamond, the associate suggested these:

(HCA 4.6)

and

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.36-carat-d-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-19289
(HCA 5.5)

I found this one that I am still partial to:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.33-carat-d-color-if-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-205830
(HCA 1.9)

Of these 3 options, which would you recommend? The associate still suggested the larger sized ones (much lower cost, as I'd mentioned my budget is about $2K or so).

At these carat sizes, does the cut still matter as much as on larger stones?

Thank you!

Your first two diamonds are the same stone...I'd throw it out though....Out of the ones you picked I'd prefer the last one, but I'm going to look for something else.

I'd PUT THIS ON HOLD ASAP!!!!

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.37-carat-f-color-i1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-40791

It scored a 1.9 on the HCA, but it's well within your budget. I'd ask to see if the inclusion could be hidden by a prong, if so then it'll look like you have a flawless stone! I love stones like this...

I'd also put this on hold:

The ideal scope is perfect...I'd ask about the inclusion in the center...you probably won't be able to see it unless you have the stone up to your eye....

Hey pekkle! :wavey:

First of all, welcome to PS!! =) I would say HE** NO to the first two, simply due to horrid HCA scores... I would absolutely not get a D, IF, or VVS -- as it is unnecessary. Also, the cut is always important, especially in smaller stones.

Here are a few stones I think would be a great deal for you (all are HCA <2 and they will be noticeably larger!!) ;))

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...-h-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-212449 $1760
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...-g-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-211427 $1960
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...-h-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-145161 $2000 **this is graded by IGI, but I like the looks of it best

I'd put these on hold ASAP! :))

OP, is your budget $2K (price of the last stone) or more like half that (prices of the other two stones)?? Sorry, I'm confused...

Thank you for the suggestions! Let me take a look at them ...

My budget is $2K total (including ring), but I don't have to hit that upper limit if I don't have to ...

Thanks for all the recommendations! I'm tending towards the smaller side of the carat range (0.3 - 0.4) primarily based on SO input ... she'd tried on a 0.50 carat weight at a local jewelry shop and actually commented it was too large for her (I was a bit surprised :P) ...

Where do I find out more information about ideal scope?

I think you should shoot for a half carat, you can get a very nice half carat for your budget. She will get used to it.

after you put the stones you want on hold, you just ask JA (the chat thing) to send you an ideal scope image.
