Hi Everybody,

Looking for an E ring in Toronto, dilemma of whether getting it online or from a local jeweler. Talked to this guy call Edmund (diamond discovery inc) near Dundas Sqaure who seemed helpful and his price is reasonably competitive, but on a search of pricescope forum there were some unhappy comment towards him (albeit in 2006 and discredited). Has anyone had any experience that they can share with?

I haven't found any good toronto jewlers (that's not to say there aren't any) but their prices aren't as good as importing it from say www.goodoldgold.com or WF or another jeweler. Can you tell us your budget and what you are looking for?

If your up for a drive there is a good local jeweler in Barrie http://www.billleboeufjewellers.com/ and they have ideal cut diamonds but the prices compared to online are quite high-but that's just how they are in Canada.

There are a ton of nice preowned engagement rings and diamonds for sale on the preloved part of this forum and on www.diamondbistro.com and www.loupetroop.com you should also check out.

Also if you like antique rings www.jewelsbyericagrace.com is a great site too.

Old thread, but thought to add my recent experience purchasing a rock in Toronto.

Purchasing a rock off the internet is out of the question for me. I know you can get great deals, but I need to see the rock in person and I have trust issues with purchasing expensive items off the internet.

I started looking for a rock at the retail stores (Eaton Centre and Sherway), but was overall disappointed with the quality for what I could afford.

I was told by a co-worker to check out 21 Dundas (wholesale diamond district). The first Kiosk I bumped into is Diamond Discovery Inc. The Gentleman, Edmund, shared his vast knowledge with me. I found his prices to match Blue Nile. After a week of back and forth with him, he finally found me a diamond.

It was the right diamond for the right price when comparing to internet wholesalers. I purchased it. No hassles. The transaction went smoothly. And most importantly, the GF…Fiancée loves it ;)

I will be taking the ring back for a resizing. I will update with the experience. So far, I definitely recommend anyone to check out 21 Dundas and check out any of the kiosks located on the main floor. I will be a repeat customer for Edmund. The kiosk is called Diamond Discovery Inc.

If you have any questions regarding my experience, please PM.

Thanks for the replies. Have been looking around a bit,

These seem interesting. I think of the online vendors, whiteflash and brian gavin interest me the most. A little hesitant about B2c and bluenile. The tax of getting a diamond in the price range into Canada will really hurt...

I'm from Calgary. I purchased from BGD and received the ring this week. They've been great to work with, and very patient and accommodating.

I don't know how it works for loose diamonds, but if the diamond is set all you will need to pay is the HST as it's listed as manufactured in the USA. You'll have to pay HST whether you buy it from the US or from Canada, so that shouldn't be much of a consideration.

Consider looking at WF and BGD now while the Canadian dollar is overvalued and you should get much better value than buying in Canada.
