Newbie Needs Guidance

Hi Guys
I have been a lurker for a little while but have finally decided to seek some advice on a possible diamond purchase. Take a look at this http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=53&item=315302 and let me know what you think. I spoke with hima bout the stone and yes, it is eye clean. The only thing that concerns me is the idealscope image and the presence of a "dark section" in the table. I also had hims end me a 25x magnified image of the stone looks great, but that dark section that is visible in the idealscope also seems to be visible in the magnified image (see below, circled in red). Is this something to be concerned about? What do you think? Thanks for the help

The only thing that concerns me is the idealscope image and the presence of a 'dark section' in the table.

The conditions these pictures are taken in... are meant to show strong correlation between the image there and the Ideal Scope. One thing that does that is allowing the reflector facets to reflect something and look dark - so that the arrows show.

As far as I can tell, the respective reflection is due to a facet (perhaps the star right over the spot guessing by picture and the crown variation in the MegaScope report, but... what difference does it make? and you could ask what's up) cut at some slightly different angle than its peers.

It shouldn't show in person and would not matter to me: 'guess this makes the stone not H&A, but the cherry proportions and nice pattern remain all the same.

It is hard to tell from a picture, especially one like this - however I would tend to trust your vendor and his honest opinion. James Allen have a good return policy if you are unhappy in any way, but it looks like it could be a smashing diamond. Hopefully in such a magnified photo this dark section will be a non issue for you. Hope this helps.

Yes, I agreed with Lorelei. If you are comfortable with the returns policy, then take a look at it and then decide.

I know I am always saying this but ''take your time''. Every diamond is absolute unique, and everyones personal preference is absolutely unique too. You may look at quite a few diamonds before you find the one you fall in love with.

Thanks for the replies! I guess the responsible thing to do then is to "buy" the diamond, have him send it out, take a look at it, and then if I like it, send it back to have it set. I have looked at many stones in my search for the right one, this one has been the closest yet to exactly what I am looking for. I just didnt want her to look down at her new ring and see a "black hole" (exaggeration) in her new sparkly ring. What lead me to this stone was the cut, I like the numbers, and no matter what "tool" I run i through it seems to score well across the board. Also, when comparing this stone to others of the same cut quality, I feel that it is priced well.

Just realized that This stone has been around for awhile, and I guess that it is the poorly cut facets that are causing it not to sell. Thanks.
