I am in the market for ring for my 40th coming up. My husband has been very generous, but basically doesn''t want to be involved (smart man!) I found a ring I love ($20,000), but am worried about the quality. It is a GIA center stone flanked by two non-gia (but not treated) stoneds- all emerald cut. The center stone is 2.71 g/si2. (The side stones are .7 each.) The main inclusion is a small white cloud near the center edge, and doesn''t really bother me. I don''t think anyone would notice. There is a slightly detectible gray bow, mainly at one end. The table is 74, depth 65.7, cut and polish both good. My main problem is with the girdle, which on the report says "extremely thin to thick". Is my concern that this center stone (which is slighly raised next to the side stones)is going to chip valid? I know any diamond CAN chip, but I don''t want to set my self up for failure. My other option is a 2.02 f/vs1 emerald cut (GIA) that is a BEAUTIFUL stone (loose-$15,800)with a thin-slightly thick girdle, but the jeweler wants to charge too much for a setting. The girdle is thin, but not extremely thin, as with the other one. Should I buy the slighty larger one in a setting I love and risk it chipping, or go with the loose and get a setting that I don''t love to stay under $20,000? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
