Aloha all! I do hope I'm doing this right, not only am I new to pricescope.com but this is my first time being a part of a forum. I can't tell you how happy I was to stumble across this site, I can't believe how much there is to know about purchasing a diamond. The BF and I have decided to take the next step. We live about an hour and a half from NYC and are thinking about checking out a few places that were noted on PS. I wanted to know if anyone can lend any advice, we are working with a budget, about 5000.00. I'd like to, if possible, have a princess cut diamond between 1.25-1.31. I'm not too concerned about the band, we can always work towards that in the future. Anyone have any suggestions where I should look to get this type of diamond? We would, like many, like to get the most bang for our buck.

Mahalo in Advance!

Welcome to Pricescope, I would recommend going to Good Old Gold out in Long Island. I believe they are a few blocks from the train or subway if you don't drive.I would call Jon first and set up an appointment . They have a large variety of different shapes so you can see and compare them in person. They also carry many designers settings. I think !.25 may be a stretch for 5 grand, but it doesn't hurt to try. I would try to get the best cut princess even if it meant going smaller rather than a bigger flat dull stone. Whiteflash has some very beautiful ACA princess. Be sure out the upgrade policy of both vendors. Good Luck in your search!!! :wavey:

Thank you for your reply. We are completely clueless when it comes to this.

I'm currently searching through PS to find the best of the 4c's for our money. I read somewhere that rounds look bigger than princess cut, true? I don't mind coming down on the size considering it would look better. Is a 1.16 an alright size to look at? I also do not mind a pre-owned ring.

Any thoughts on ID Jewelry or blue nile?

some people think rounds look larger than a princess cut of the same carat weight...but they are also more expensive. Blue Nile does not provide pictures of their diamonds but they do have a good return policy. Many PSers have shopped with ID Jewelry in the past...if you do a search you can find reviews.

Blue Nile has this one that looks promising since it is an AGS0 (GIA does not grade the cut quality of princess cuts)

GOG has this one

I would get the cut of stone you like best.
