Hi Yall!

I am new here and I''ve been cruising the forum for the day and its been REALLY helpful already. I''ve begun to look at engagement rings with my bf and here is what I am looking for:

We are using a 1.75 carat round diamond as the center stone, which is a family diamond.

Then my bf will have to purchase the rest/setting. So here is what I am looking for and i was wondering how much you think it might cost at a medium to high quality level.

I want no side stones, but I do want a diamond band. Since my bf won''t have to purchase the center stone since it is a family stone, i don''t think the price is thatttt important. Could I go over 1 carat of diamonds for the diamond band? or is that too much for a 1.75 center stone? Anyone have any idea what it would look like?

I would like the center stone set in a 4 prong setting. I want platinum, and a pave or tiffany novo-like setting for the diamonds in the band. Anyone have any suggestions on the shape of the diamonds in the band? I am a size 6 ring - if I was looking to do 1-1.5 carats for the band, how many/how big would the diamonds on the band be?

lots of questions!! thank you for any and all help!! it seems like there are a lot of knowledgable people on here! I am sorry if my questions are veryyyy beginner but, that is exactly what i am!!

thanks!!

Hi Chocolate! I would suggest you check out Brian Gavin Diamonds. They have a setting called the Novo you might like. Be sure to look at the archives of their blogs to see real life hand shots of some of their settings.

You might also check out Whiteflash, and Leon Mege. In getting a diamond band to fit against a solitaire, my suggestions would be to stay away from any band that doesn''t have smooth sides. The shared prong
version diamond bands can cause damage to your e-ring. There are many threads about that here. There are many vendors here who have excellent reputations for fine work, these are just my personal favorites.
If you stay with one of the vendors recommended by PS''ers you will be sure to find and awesome setting and vendor.

Good luck and congratulations!

Hiii!!

Thank you so much for your response:: but I think I might have not been clear! When I said I want a diamond band, I meant I want my round diamond set on a diamond band... so all in 1 ring! I am not sure what were doing about the wedding band yet. But for my engagement ring - I want the 1.75 round diamond set on a band with 1-1.5 carats of diamonds. So the total ring weight would be about 3 carats.

Does that make sense? I am such a newbie i can''t even explain what I want appropriately!!

okay:: heres a new question to clarify my previous settings:

what is it called/ is it possible to have::: a "solitaire" setting for my round main diamond, meaning to have the round diamond set on 4 prongs like this: http://www.gold-custom.com/GenImage.ashx?Type=RS&Path=RS-002%5CPic-01.jpg

BUTTTT to have the entire band of my engagement ring look like this::: http://danforthdiamond.com/platinum-engagement-rings-with-side-stones/4857/Platinum-Flat-Edge-Engagement-Ring-with-All-Around-Bezel-Set-Round-Diamonds-%28.49-ct.-tw.%29/details.htm

am I crazy? is this possible/is there a name for this setting? ahhh

THANK you gecko!! you''re so kind!

okay so I LOVEEEE the way the diamonds on this band are set: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamonds-for-an-eternity-engagement-ring_998.htm

but is it possible for the center/main diamond to be set on a 4 prong setting like this: http://www.gold-custom.com/GenImage.ashx?Type=RS&Path=RS-002%5CPic-01.jpg

ALL in 1 ring???? - like ignore the plain band in the second link i posted - i just like the way the diamond is literally SET in the 4 prongs there

would you be willing to go custom? The setting you posted from Brian Gavin Diamonds is lovely - you could talk to Lesley there about changing the style of the head (where the diamond sits) to a higher 4 prong setting. Is that what you mean?

Hi!!1 I would be willing to go custom!!

more questions::

if I want the engagement ring to have diamonds allll around the band - about how many carats of diamonds would be necessary for the band for it to look REALLY sparkling all around? The center stone is going to be 1.7 (family stone)
