Hello everyone! :twirl:

I'm brand new here and hoping someone could help me. I'm looking for a floating halo exactly like the one BN offers here: http://www.bluenile.com/floating-halo-diamond-engagement-ring-14k-white-gold_21446 only in platinum.

DH surprised me a while back with a round solitaire classic Tiffany style knife edge from BGD (after skimming around PS for a bit i'm sure he's been here since BGD is highly recommended) however I HATE it. I wear it when I have to and when I don't it's hidden in a box in a closet as far away from me as possible. I don't have a problem with the diamond itself although I would have prefer a cushion but I'm just not a six prong that's it kinda girl and the moment DH proposed he knew I didn't like the ring so he's agreed to let me change the setting. The only problem is... I can't seem to find the setting I want anywhere! I contacted BGD but the list of BUTS they got back to me with meant that it was pretty much a NO and I hate all of their halo settings so I started emailing other online sites and was told the same thing they could custom my halo BUT... they wouldn't be able to do it EXACTLY how I want it - a round floating halo in platinum with pave side diamonds (G/H & VS2-SI1) a very thin halo where you can clearly see a gap (airline) between the diamond and the halo and a thin band (1.7mm) and I want the bottom to be simple no intricate or fancy designs just a V.

Of course BN doesn't sell their settings :(( If someone has a VERY similar floating halo that wasn't from BN please share!

They can set that with an airline for you. If you ask them. And they customize. Ritani is almost certainly one of you best bets.

I have this Ritani setting with a 0.7ct center stone. Here are some pictures if you are interested https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ritani-engagement-ring-is-here.196552/ None of these show any airline specifically though. I could try to take some pics later tonight

I did not ask for an airline specifically (neither did I say I don't want it, just ordered it!). It doesn't look like it has an airline face up, but it does when viewed from a side and down angle (if that makes any sense!). I'm sure they would customize it for you if you want a more pronounced airline?

Thank you for the quick responses :)

Ritani makes great settings however I don't like that there are prongs between every single melee diamond, the band is .2mm thicker than I want it to be and the halo isn't as thin as I would like it. Do you ladies think that these are things that Ritani would consider changing in addition to adding an airline?

Wahhhhhhh why am I so particular?! :((

Your poor fiance....The Ritani is gorgous in person also. My nephew was considering it so we went and had a look . I specifically like the diamond halo looks like it is part of the stone unlike others where the stone is slightly raised. I don't like those. But you have very specific requirements for a newbie and I hope you will be happy.

I know! I feel SO bad but I'm a terrible liar and can't even fake a smile or say the word like and e-ring in one sentence together :'(

Don't get me wrong the Ritani setting is beautiful it's just not me... :(

I'd go to your local jeweler and see what they can drum up in their inventory. I swear I've seen settings very similar to what you've described.

Nothing wrong with being picky, you're in good company on PS

That said, the BN that you love is a disaster waiting to happen, unless perhaps you have a size2 finger and are very careful with your hands in general. A cast shank that thin that has been also turned into swiss cheese to set pave is going to warp with the pressures of daily wear, and warping means losing melee.

Unfortunately I think to safely get the delicacy you want, handforged may be your only option... ERD has handforged a number of beautiful halos at lower pricepoints than the other usual suspects, might be worth calling in and seeing what they recommend.

I'm currently living in Kuwait and been to every single jeweler I could here and that was a total fail :( It's either a chain store like Tiffany's or a hole in the wall jeweler who give me blank stares when I try asking for a custom ering.

I will definitely try contacting Ritani and ERD to see if either do will it :)

@yssie thank you for the heads up! I'm a size 3 and my hands don't do much of anything besides shop and eat so I felt that going with a delicate setting would be okay. Does going with hand forged setting make it less delicate?

Handforged metal is stronger than cast at thinner sizes. So if you want something to wear every day and have it not fall apart, that's where you are going to need to be.

2mm is thin enough though. Even with your tiny fingers.

And handforged is going to run you about 3800.

Oh and you need platinum.

Thanks for the info gypsy :)

2mm for the band? My wedding band is a 1.7mm so I wanted the ering to be the same size since it's currently a knife edge and doesn't look good together (in my eyes at least) on a side note will ERD send internationally? I tried contacting them online but it asked for a city and state.

I don't really mind paying $3800 or more even as long as I get EXACTLY what I want. I get so discouraged when I get the return email with sure we can do that for you but we can't do this or this or this :(

It's gotten to the point of where DH suggest we just sell the damn ring and just buy the one I want from BH :((

Don't do that.

The rings is lovely the the diamond is top quality. You can consign that setting you don't like with ERD when you send your diamond to them for setting. That will help you off set the price of the setting.

And yes, IF you go for handforged IN PLATINUM you can get away with 1.8 (which is close enough to 1.7). And get "exactly what you want".

BUT ERD is terrible on email. Just flat out horrible. So you are going to need to get them on the phone for the first communication. Send the email. And get verbally confirmation of each email.

And yes, they will deal internationally.
Make sure you get everything from them BACK in an email though-- every detail. The mm thickness. ANY CADs should show EXACTLY what you want. ESPECIALLY hammer the airline into their heads. Prong placement, your stone alignment. Everything. And make sure it's handforged, and says that in writing.

They are a great jeweler. But they do a lot of volume in very similar settings (a TON of halos of that style) and there have been communication flubs in the past. They ALWAYS make it right... and are excellent about that. But might as well make sure you are on top of it from the first.

Awesome thanks again for all the great info gypsy! :)

I will make sure to mention it over and over and over again since I don't think the DH could deal with this again :D
