Newbie/Engagement Ring HELP

mine is 1.8mm. i believe under 2mm is counted as thin. around 3 is considered thicker.

i think that is a beautiful setting. i can't remember if i sent that to you, but i remember looking at it but discounting it because you don't like cathedrals.

Yea I know I said that but after looking at yours and many others on hands I actually do like them. Also, her mom and mine and sisters liked this one!

I forgot to add that I chatted with JA again today and got them to add all 3 of the suggested diamonds. I don't know why but for some reason I thought the 3rd was way more. TOO many things going on and got confused... SO now we should have 3 idealscope images and comparisons. Can't wait!! If things do not work out for these I have decided I will not rush in order to have for Christmas. I want to get this right but hopefully these will be the right ones but if not no biggie.

PS- Got money back from Shane Co. today

i'm doing a happy dance for you right now :appl: :appl: :appl:

i'm pretty sure one of those will be a winner. fortunately (or unfortunately for those who like to try and disagree with me haha) i have a tendency to be right :wink2: in the minuscule chance they aren't good, no worries. we'll find some more. new stones come up all the time. the key is to have standards and not compromise...never feel pressured or you'll settle for something subpar.

also i think listening to her mom and sisters is definitely a good and wise step. either way all the settings mentioned so far will look stunning since you have an amazing stone on the way!

Murr, watching with interest on how your idealscopes come out. I'm a few days behind you in the process...

No word yet from JA. Should be tomorrow though. Be ready to give opinions/insight please!

NEED HELP! SO I heard back from JA below is the email they sent. No idealscoope images but the gemologist did submit opinion. PLEASE give me advice/opinions. The most expensive one is the one they have suggested. Is this a good deal? The diamond is $17,430 w/out PS discount. Any other suggested diamonds or should I go with this one. I was hoping to get one for a little cheaper but would like to get this done by Christmas. As I said before I will wait though in order to find a great deal. Calling all PSers for opinions and especially March... I do not want visible inclusions so that rules out the one I was hoping for.... Anyways here is the email,

"Thank you for your patience while waiting for the idealscope images and gemologist inspection of diamonds 1442312, 1416821, and 1354047. Our camera that captures the idealscope images is currently down but we are hoping to have it up and running tomorrow. In the mean time, I wanted to provide you with the results from the inspection our gemologist performance on these diamonds today.

I am happy to say that our gemologist determined that diamond 1442312 has very nice fire and brilliance and faces the brightest of your selections. It has a nice H color performance and faces eye clean.

Diamond 1416821 is not recommended because it has the weakest light performance of the group and its inclusions are visible to the unaided eye. Diamond 1354047 isn't recommended either because its large knot under the table is open. The open knot can be a durability concern if the diamond is struck.

Of your selections, diamond 1442312 is your best option. It will look very beautiful in any setting and I believe you'll be very satisfied when you see it for yourself.

I will keep your diamonds on hold while we obtain the requested idealscope images. "

All diamonds are on www.jamesallen.com and you can search for them by item number.

If someone would like to suggest other diamonds I will consider other reputable PS vendors other than JA. Please give me your thoughts on the vendor and suggest stones if you find a better deal. Thanks for all the help. I am also searching but would like other opinions first.

MARCH?? Where oh where have you gone? Other Helpers??

Considering quality, size, and price which diamond would you pick/ask for more info(idelscope)? Or other suggested diamonds that are better deals?

the AGS0 one that they recommended looks really nice. post the IS images when you get them.

i would eliminate anything that scores over 2. it's much easier.

the one i chose is around $16500 after the discount right? hmm the 1.62 H VS2 you posted looks nice and there's not too much of a difference in size considering the price. if the one i recommended is over budget then we'll try find things under.

you could ask about these:
1.70 F SI2 $14940 http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1427662.asp
1.70 H SI1 $15410 http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1427662.asp

also ask if they have any other recommendations that fit your specs.

i'm really sorry the other 2 didn't work out well :(sad

just wanted to chime in and say, marchesa, you're so sweet! and i've learned about your twinning wisps secret ;) never knew there was a 'preferred inclusion'..

Post the idealscope when you get it, and we'll let you know if it's good. It should be fine though.

I really like the JA common prong setting, too!

Murr, I got my idealscope images today so yours should be coming anytime.

I will post the idealscope today as soon as I receive. Thanks for all the help everyone. What do you mean by common prong setting?

Everyone seems to agree that the one you suggested and then JA reccomends is a good deal. So long as that is the case and the idealscope comes back and is good I will go with it. That one is $16,680 with PS discount. Thanks for your help March! I am spending about the same as I did at Shane Co but feel confident that I am getting a better cut diamond and that is the most important thing from what I have learned.

Yay, murr01! I have been following this thread and am really happy for you. She will love it!

I received all three idealscope images. I will upload the one that has been suggested the other two diamonds are no longer being considered. Please let me know how this looks. I do not know how to read the idealscope image or what is good. As always any help or feedback is very much appreciated.

Looks beautiful to me!

The JA 'common prong' setting is the one you linked, the 2.2 mm one. That's what JA calls it. I think it's really nice.

Looks good to m too.
wtg for all your efforts in trying to get a nice diamond for your gal!

So Murr, did you pull the trigger? Are you looking to get it before the holiday? My target is to receive mine by the 27th and they've been great about doing what they can to meet that date.

It is a done deal! Suppose to receive it on the 22nd! JA is an absolute first class company when it comes to customer service. Have to wait to see the final product but to this point I would recommend them 100000 times over all the others I have dealt with. I will post pics once I receive. Congrats Sea

murr and sea please post pics up once you get the final product! i'm really excited for you both

Thank you so much for posting those pics. My fiance and I are considering a very similar stone - 1.80 carat round H SI2 AGS Triple Ideal. I have not seen the stone, but my fiance sent me the specs. I'd not heard of AGS previous, but it looks like just as reputable of a certification as GIA, and I am thrilled that the cut, polish and symmetry are graded as triple ideal. I was a bit conscerned, though with the stone being eye clean given that it's an SI2. While no two stones are alike, yours is amazing and makes me feel more confident. Still, I feel like the quote he received is still a really good deal, and I'm a bit concerned that the price point for this may be too low, and that I will be able to see inclusions with the naked eye. He is purchasing from a true wholesaler, so perhaps that is why, but how much of a savings can you really expect from a wholesaler?
