Hi. I'm new and glad that I found this site. I am hoping someone can give me a little insight into an engagement ring and wedding band that I have inherited. It needs something repaired but I am nervous about trusting someone with it. I also would love to have it resized but I'm not sure if that would damage the integrity of the ring. I know very little about the ring but I will give you the background I do know.
It was my Grandmothers. Her and my Grandfather were married in the early 50's in Chicago after coming over from Europe. They were Holocaust surrvivors. My Grandpa hid out and was never in a camp and my Grandmother was. So I am unsure if this ring came from Europe or was purchased here. They didn't meet until they were both in Chicago. My Grandfather passed away in 1958 in his late 20's and I know that the engagement ring probably hasn't been worn since then and the wedding band has only been worn a few times. I remember when my Grandma gave my Mom the wedding band but never remember there being an Engagement ring but by the setting and the metal, I can tell that they are a set. I found the engagement ring 2 years ago when my Mom passed away. My dad organized all my Mom's Jewlery and I was looking thru her costume stuff and found the wedding band. My Dad had no idea what it was since it wasn't a diamond he had bought. Then while still looking I saw the engagement ring and pulled it from the storage since I knew that they had to go together. You can clearly tell that the stone is real as it is imperfect. I have been basically carrying these around for 2 years. I love them and they are beautiful!!!
I know no details about the ring except that they are old and 14K gold. I can't even tell what cut they are. If you need better pictures, let me know and I will post them. I am anxious to know ANYTHING anyone can tell me.
Thanks in advance!
