I''ve never seen rose cut diamonds in real life. On one hand, I can see why they became near extinct when the brilliant cut came along, but it has a chunky charm of its own I think :) The garnet is an odd cut as well, but pretty. I''m actually wondering if I a jeweler can replace it with another 5mm stone I have..hmm...might be hard, the setting is quite unique :)

Quick description: antique 14kt rose gold ring with 16 small rose cut diamonds and 1 5mm garnet. (Heh, also, the name Beulah is inscribed)

Here come pics!

What a neat ring! I love the color of the garnet and the swirly way the diamonds are mounted.

I do like the vintague look and feel, I'd be curious to know how old this ring is, but I don't think the vendor knows, heh. Although if "Beulah" is any indication, it might be early 1900's? Haha..

I was thinking of replacing the center stone with a demantoid, but I'd have to ask a jeweler about how possible it is because the setting is kind of interesting and very intricate. The rose cut diamonds glitter quite impressively :)

I think I like it...not sure though since it's very different than my typical jewelry (very clean and modern and simple).
Thoughts?

You definitely need to bring it to a jeweller for his opinion. It isn''t a prong set; the center stone looks almost bezeled and it is usually very difficult to remove a stone from a bezel setting without completely destroying the setting. This is what I was told by another jeweller I used to work with.

I love it. The old stuff is so much fun. I love the rose cuts!

Is your demantoid an older cut as well? I think a modern cut would look out of place in that lovely setting. Removing the garnet will be hard, though and might damage the setting.

Ok, I confess: I don''t like the idea of tampering with an antique ring. Specially one so lovely.

Haha ok, it'll stay as is. Now I just have to figure out how I feel about "Beulah" in my ring... The engraving is done nicely, it's just odd to have someone elses name in my ring.

Sadly, I'm actually leaning towards sending it back. It wasn't pricey at 95$, I just don't know if it's very "me". Guess I"ll sleep on it.

I think having a name engraved on the ring would be something very special. Maybe it''s the maker''s mark or from a love to the lover or something special since it''s an antique. It''s gives the ring a history and maybe some mystic too.

I commented in your other thread too but I really really like it. For $95 I''d would definitely not send it back!

Very pretty ring.

I think it''s gorgeous. I wouldn''t set another stone in there either. I love the rose cuts.

Just a reminder - demantoids are not exactly ring stones, especially for frequent wear.

So Beulah and I got to know each other a bit better over the course of last night, and I think she''s a keeper :) Haha, this is my only ring that has it''s own name.
I think the vintage look is growing on me, and Beulah''s garnet is a really pretty shade of red (and garnet''s my birthstone). So there you go, Beulah''s staying to live with me :) Thanks for the input!

Wow, I love it. I''d keep it as is and find another setting for your demantoid.

I can''t believe you are considering sending this back! ....especially for only paying $95 for it!!

It is definately a keeper! I love the mix of antique mixed a little modern day flair! It is beautiful!!

I''m so glad you decided to keep Beulah! What a neat ring with obvious history. I really like it.

I wrote the vendor, and he refunded me 20$ for overlooking that the ring was engraved, which was very gracious of him. Hehe, guess I can use that money to get the ring resized!

Here's Beulah for those of you who didn't see my post in the SMTR board

I love that ring--so pretty! And I adore personal engravings in antiques. I think it adds so much romance. I would actually pay MORE for a ring with Beulah''s name in it than one without.

Yay! I''m glad you decided to keep it!!!

Agreed, which is what I posted in the SMTR thread. It adds a personal touch and some history/mystic behind it.

Beulah was feeling forlorn that I had thoughts about returning her, so I had to cheer her up with a little photoshoot. She wanted to look pretty for all you guys that gave her such nice compliments. She''s going to be escorting me during my wedding as my "something old" (she prefers the word vintage though)

I like it, it really has a lot of character and is very pretty

Beautiful Beulah! I''m so glad you''ve decided to love her.

I really LOVE your edwardian demantoid ring :) I saw it once when I was searching for "Demantoid", mind if I ask where you got it?

I''m thinking of doing a toi-et-moi style ring with demantoid and aquamarine (me and the fiance''s birthstones), and I love the vintage look of the rings :)

Toi et moi

Oh, could anyone help me out in identify what kind of garnet this might be? In sunlight it''s a very bright orangish-red, but in shade or if you back light it, it looks more purple. It doesn''t really look like my other rhodolites that look much more purple, and it''s much more orangey in the sun than the typical pyropes I''ve seen...

Ideas?
