(new to the forum) movado or tiffany''s?

First of all,

Hello to all that are in this forum. I just found it last night and already i''ve found some great information here!

Here is my dilemma:

I saw a beautiful diamond engagement ring at Movado''s. I know they usually make watches, but they''ve started a diamond line, as someone posted here:

Yesterday i stopped by the Tiffany''s store and saw their lucida style diamonds. They were really nice, and *slightly* cheaper than a similar quality Movado ring. However, there are some doubts into my mind about Tiffany''s:

I feel that If i got my girlfriend a ring from Tiffany''s, it would be like a run-of-the-mill diamond ring, that you''ll eventually see on other women. First of all, with my price range around $10,000 to $15,000, the ludica rings i saw were "less than impressive." It looked very... common. Is that something i should be worried bout?

Given that movado is a relative newcomer and tiffany''s seems to have a premium on their brand name, which store would you want to buy a ring from, if you had to choose.

Which would I, personally, choose? Well, not knowing what Movado quality's like & knowing how I feel about Tiffany's... neither.

If you're looking for an unusual & gorgeous stone, I'd start looking HERE at the jubilee... just my opinion tho

Yeah that site is awesome. how do you generally feel about Tiffany being considered too common? I know it's still an expensive place to get a ring, but i don't know if the brand has become so saturated in the jewellry that it's value has gone down...

Honestly? I walked through there w my then-boyfriend (now fiance) & neither of us saw anything special enough for an e-ring. I'm not crazy about their bands & there's little choice. But i should tell you i'm more of a custom design type myself. I don't want to have what anyone else has - i want special, different, one-of-a-kind (my fiance makes me feel that way & I wanted my ring to make me feel that way, too)

Oh - also - I didn't get my e-ring from GOG but you really know what you're getting with all the testing he does on his stones... you won't find that at Tiffany's or Movado...

Many on PS have worked w Jonathan & he gets many raves.

I believe the lucere is closest to the lucida (which Jon carries) but the Jubilee is gathering quite a following of people that love the square-ish look but want something that's super-sparkly on par w a RB.

I would not describe the general feeling of this forum (=average) as warm and fuzzy.

As long as you get a nice diamond and the make of the setting is impeccable, what difference does a brand name make? Do you think she wants a brand nae on her finger? This is pretty much the most imporatnt issue, I would think. Otherwise, between Movado and Tiffany there is little to be talked about - they are both recognizable names and produce trendy jewelry of decent make. It is not difficut to obtain at least as good quality with no brand beside it at all.

Welcome Riz-

I will admit 2 things, I do like Tiffany pieces (hey, it is friday) and certain pieces found at Movado. The Tiffany pieces that I own are well made and the diamonds sparkle. I had Wink do a sizing for me for one of my Tiffany rings and he confirmed that the center stone had a very strong/well defined arrow pattern.

For Movado, I like the "simplicity of design" that their jewelry items have. I actually thought about getting this one pendant that they have that looks like a diamond "floating" in the center of a circle (made of 18k wg). Falling under the spell of the bright jewelry store lights and the presentation. But, as what happens when I'm in a store selling Hearts on Fire diamond jewelry, my mind wanders back to Pricescope and I start doing these calculations in my mind of what I can get better and bigger online and I wind up just walking out. When I got my wits about me in the Movado store, I took a good look at the diamond and it had an obvious yellow tint to it. I asked what the color was and the guy looked at the tag and said "H" and it was a 70 pointer.

I would suggest that you continue to read up on the online vendors here and see what they've got to offer. I am not a cheapskate by any means, but I really like for my money to go as long a way as possible

Edited to add: I did see the "Movado diamond" and to me its nothing spectactular. I think it is like 114 facets? The ones I saw were all brilliance and no fire and I just think there's nothing like a very well cut 57 or 58 facet diamond.
