My fiance and I are searching for engagement rings. In our search for diamonds, we have come across "The Movado Diamond." Apparently, what sets this diamond apart from others is its "114 precisely angled and proportioned facets." It is billed as "the innovative edge of cutting: optimum faceting for optimum brilliance." The company literature and sales proffessional both claim that Movado Diamonds, with their 114 facets, are offered exclusively in quality grades of SI or better with a color grade of H or higher and carry certification from GIA. However, I''ve searched the internet for more information regarding this "Movado Diamond" and reasons why a watch company needs to be making its own diamonds. It seems to me that if these diamond are so great, there should be more jewlers carrying them as opposed to the traditional 58 facet diamond. Can anyone out there offer some objective advice or information regarding the mysterious "Movado Diamond?"

thanks.

I have seen a few recently. They were indeed really nice but the brilliance seemed different than the usual diamonds. It had lots of smaller flashes vs. bigger sized flashes of a more typical 58 facets. Does not mean it is worse just different. I will note that I thought it was on the expensive side equal to a similar sized Tiffany diamond.

does anyone happen to know if there's a way i can compare these diamonds side by side (traditional and movado) or if there's any difference besides preference?

I have a Star 129 diamond. It has 129 facets. Its only a little more expensive than a "regular" diamond, maybe 10% at most. I think we actually paid less than a regular diamond.

how do you think it compares with the more traditional cut?

Its so much brighter and sparklier. Its blinding. And at night even the tiniest bit of light makes it so nice, you can see the stone very well at night becuse of that.

The benefit of all those extra facets is that more light can get in from all angles. I have an H because it is as white and bright as a regular cut D. The way it gathers and traps and flows light is phenomenal. We were able to get a bigger stone because we could go lower on clarity and color.
