New to sapphires.. Help please!

Hi!!

I'm new to coloured stones and would very much appreciate your opninon. I have my eyes on these earrings:

But NO idea as to what I should focus on or whether the price makes sense.

Somewhat pricey but they are beautiful and being a true antique, could be worth the price to someone.

Thank you Chrono! Although I do appreciate the history I don't necessarily need to have real antique pieces (or want to pay a premium for that).. However I guess if I were to try building something similar from scratch then I need to source the sapphire pairs and find someone who can set them with old cut diamonds.. Do you have any recommendations as to how I could approach that / which vendor is the best starting point? Or any other sources that might have similar ready made earrings in their inventory?

Sorry one more question for the sapphire specifically - based on the lab report, what would you expect the price range (ballpark) to be if they were loose and sold in the market today?

So the Lang earrings are $6k - including two well-matched 6mm sapphires (one of which has an AGL report); 22 old-cut diamonds totally 1.75tcw; and 18kt yellow gold settings.

If you were going to recreate these earrings with old-cut diamonds in similar size/carat weight, I don't think the price would be much different than the Lang earrings. Finding two matched sapphires with at least one with a AGL report would not be easy though with time you'd probably be able to do it.

If you were going to recreate the look of the earrings but maybe with 5mm round sapphires and with smaller MRB diamond melee, then I do think a place like ID Jewelry would come in at well below 50% of the Lang earrings.

5.5mm, but the color and cut are not as good as the two above. This is reflected in the price.

These are larger, 6.5mm, but more violet in color. Just in case you like the color/size.

Hopefully that will help you make a decision! Not sure how difficult/pricey it would be to get comparable OMCs.

Hi all,

Thanks a lot for your helpful input. If I were to do the project from scratch I would very much like to have the sapphires set with old cuts so I guess what I'm hearing is that while it is doable, it may not end up being more economical, especially considering the amount of time and effort that will need to go into identifying a good pair plus working with someone who can source and set antique or antique looking diamonds. In which case, I would prefer to buy an off the shelf version such as these.

I couldn't see any information on clarity or color (other than "blue") / tone on the one available report - is that normal?

And which appraiser might be best to work with to come up with a fair value assessment for an antique piece?
